Good Band Schools

Hi, I'm from Florida and I'm searching for a really good school in band. Honestly, I could care less about marching band. I'm a bassoonist, oboist, and saxophonist. My main instruments are Bari and Bassoon, in which I plan to pursue music on. Bassoon is what I really focus on, for many reasons. One being that it's a scholarship instrument and another being that it's what I love the most. Music is my life and I'll never give it up. So, with all of that being said, I really want to find a good concert band college. If it has a great jazz band, that would be a plus too, but my main focus is concert band. I also still want a good education, but I can lack in that if it makes up for it in the music program. I really would like to go to college in California, and I'm sure they have good music schools there somewhere. I just haven't been able to find any, as any good "music" school there focuses on theatre or dance. So, yeah. A good/great/outstanding CONCERT band with good education also in California if possible, or any other big cities. Thank you very much.

Check out Cal State University Northridge. They have a wonderful music program, with concert bands as well as jazz bands.

Thank you, that looks like a great school. Do you know of any others I could look into?

First off, I’d like to apologize for my poor diction/grammar/spelling. it’s midnight and I’ve been cramming for a test.

Fresno State has the largest marching band in california (I think). They’re pretty big on music. Their conductor has his own music company. That being said, Fresno is in the central valley so if you’re dreaming of sunny shores then you’re looking at the wrong place. I know Cal Poly hosts their own music festival every year. Cal Poly is home to that isolated golden coast people dream of. The University of Southern California (USC) has a fantastic music program. Atleast, thats what my band director says. I don’t doubt him. USC is known for being a top tier school. in less than ten years of being at my school, he’s transformed our band. we went form scoring 60’s in concert festival to recieving unanimous superiors for the last four years and this year we were invited to the state concert music festival. Call me crazy but I thik USC played a hand in that one. Also, USC is in the ghetto of Los Angelos so that can be a turn off to a lot of people. I hope this helped a bit. feel free to PM me if you have any more questions

Also check out CSU Long Beach.
