Good CC to transfer to UCB from

I live in nor cal (Near Sacramento) and the two closest CCs to me are Sierra college and American River College. I personally prefer Sierra (Nothing objective, just a better vibe) but ARC offers one additional course from the list pre requisites needed when applying to Berkeley AND ARC is part of TAP.

I'll be majoring in computer science if accepted to UCB and I'm wondering does my CC matter? Would going to ARC give me a significantly better chance of getting accepted? I"ve looked for CC to UCB transfer rates online to see if some CCS are more successful in getting their students transferred to UCB, but haven't found anything. Any tips are appreciated.

Why not just apply to UCB?

I’ll be doing that as well but going through CC would be cheaper I think. If I get accepted into UCB directly then I’ll just bite the bullet and go in debt right away. My question is more in case that doesn’t happen right away.

American River College has a CS 61B equivalent, which Sierra College does not.

If you attend Sierra College, then you may still want to take the CS 61B equivalent at American River College, so that you won’t have to take it after transfer when your schedule will be crowded with other “catch up” courses (CS 61A, CS 61C, EE 20N and/or EE 40).

I would definitely look into that if I end up choosing Sierra. However, I’d still like to know if the fact that ARC is part of TAP is a significant bonus to going to ARC instead of Sierra altogether.

[California Postsecondary Education Commission - Transfer Pathway Charts](http://www.cpec.ca.gov/OnLineData/TransferPathwayChart.asp?Inst=A0001A) indicates that American River College has historically been a larger transfer feeder to Berkeley, but Sierra College has increased to have almost the same number of transfers to Berkeley in recent years.

However, American River College is larger, with about 34,000 students, versus about 18,000 at Sierra College. But since community college students have varying goals (the number of transfer-preparation students, and their campus and major aims, is not necessarily obvious or easily found), one cannot make any reliable observation here.

Perhaps also consider finding out from on-line schedules how full the needed classes are. Some community colleges have had problems with not enough capacity, resulting in some students taking more than two years to become transfer-ready, even though they could have taken only two years if they were able to get all of their classes.

Thank you so much man! I kinda wish this website offered a rep system (Kinda like tomshardware) I would vote you up so much  The website you linked is exactly what I was looking for.

It seems like Diablo Valley College has the most transfers to UCB and their population is only 20k. Going there would require moving for me, so it may not be doable at the moment. As far as ARC vs Sierra goes, they seem fairly equal, and I know for a fact that ARC students usually have a hard time finding open classes.

That information, coupled with my bias towards Sierra kinda seals the deal I think. I kinda wish I lived closer to DVB in all honesty but hopefully good grades will be enough to get me in via Sierra.

Thanks again :)
