Good colleges for an English Lit major (and other arts subjects)

<p>Which colleges are good for specifically English, but also other areas of the arts (History, Modern Languages and Classics)?</p>

<p>I am aware of Amherst, and Brown, but find others slightly harder to place as to their academic strengths.</p>

<p>Is anyone aware of the strength of the English department at Middlebury, Bowdoin, Stanford, and Northwestern?</p>

<p>Any suggestions?</p>

<p>Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!</p>

<p>Middlebury and Bowdoin have great english departments; Stanford and Northwestern have very good ones, as well.</p>
