good colleges for international students

hello
please suggest me some good colleges for international students offering high need based aid. and some good colleges for a B Student

Internationsl school that gives you good need base is probally Harvard, Yale and Princeton, those are the only ones that I can think of there are probally others but you would have to research them and e-mail them most of the schools I know do not give aid to international students because in order to receieve aid you have to fill our a FAFSA form in the US and you would have to record your tax and etc.

If I told you some and you applied there that would lower my own chances of admission ;)
Are you a guy or a girl? And what's your ethnicity?

It depends to a great degree upon what your stats are and how well you research colleges. You'll find that the vast majority of Int'ls apply to a few colleges (I'm one of them :) ), and the lesser known (to int'ls at least) colleges are appreciative of an application from an Int'l student. If you use the search option and read the pinned threads at the top of this forum, you'll find some good info.

Davidson College and Colgate College are great if you want a quality education plus a less "fierce" admissions competition. Davidson only has 2% international population. It's in the good old South (conservative).

Try single-sex colleges and historically black institutions, if you are black.
Do you happen to mean Colgate University in Hamilton, NY? I don't know about Davidson, but at Colgate the admission competition for international students is more fierce than at many other places. According to Petersons, for fall 2004, 739 international students applied and only 91 were accepted.

Davidson's in NC. It's one of the top 10 LACs in the country. The school has a presbyterian foundation. If you are looking for a quality undergrad education (that provides comprehensive graduate school prep), Davidson is definitely a great choice.

i did A levels and got a straight b in all 5 subjects. i need a college to apply for early decision. i am taking sat this october

Here's from another A level international person. I got straight As in 5 subjects and I applied to... Yale, Harvard, MIT, Caltech, Stanford, and Columbia( all massive reaches) Dint get a place anywhere...:( . I dunno bout aid, but Pepperdine University offers scholarships, and you seem likely to get one. Their's range from 1/4-full tuition fees, and it's a christian school, so maybe if ur a non-christian with interests in christianity, they'd want you. It all I think depends on what major. If you get 2200+ in SAT, seriously consider Pepperdine, as you have a very strong chance of scholarship.

thanx everyone. i am considering smith, trinity or any other good college for ED. plz suggest me college for ED

if you need massive finaid you should definitely look at liberal arts colleges. of course, the top universities offer need-based aid as well but there's way too much competition.. especially since there are alot of full-paying students applying to these schools without needing a cent from the college. so unless you have stellar credentials, stay away from the non-needblind top unis. as for the less-elite universities, yes they do offer some kind of merit scholarships - but it's probably not enough if you can't fork out another 10K USD for living expenses (since these scholarships mainly offer up to full tuition only) you should be looking at LACs instead, which are typically generous with internationals with financial aid, mainly because most internationals who apply to LACs require financial aid anyway. for a start, the most generous LACs that are not impossibly hard to get into are Connecticut College, Bates College and Mount Holyoke College (if you're a girl). There are some data on the net that compiles the average intel financial aid awarded and no. of financial aid packages awarded. Try googling or search the forum for it.

hmmm.... ED... I am really confused.... SOS

i guess even for liberal art colleges, family contribution is still quite important. someone is rejected because he or she is "over qualitied"... but the rejection may simply because this person's family contribution is little...

p.s.

i think applying to colgate is very competitive... last year, over 100 students from a country applied it and only 3 were admitted... but 2 of them wouldnt go there.

"If I told you some and you applied there that would lower my own chances of admission"

Jesus Christ....

is there any datas of no. of applicants and no. enrolled in ED available on the net???

someone help!!!!!!!

you might try the common data sets for the colleges you're interested in, although I doubt that such a stat would be found in them, worth a try though, perhaps. I seem to remember that someone posted a thread with data stats for most top colleges some months back, try searching for it.

Hello, I am an international student and need fin aid too. I am considering Middlebury and Colgate (may be one of them for an ED). Also, Carleton, Bowdoin and Grinnel but I haven`t checked them more carefully. Do you have any oppinions on these colleges?

grinnel is need blind. so is carleton

Middlebury is need-blind for international applicants, and so is Williams. Macalester is supposed to be international-friendly as well, but I'm pretty sure they consider need in admissions.
