Good Colleges for Majors in Civil Engineering/Architecture?

@ ricegal

Yeah Cal Poly SLO and UCD are on my lists.

But what about the other UC’s for engineering? not including Berkeley or UCLA (too hard to get into)

How about San Diego or Irvine? How do those stack up against Davis or Cal Poly SLO?

Does anyone know of good college in South Carolina that offer Civil Engineering and Architecture as a possible major? Some tell me Clemson. Ick!! My parents want me to go to a college instate. I am looking at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.

Clemson has an amazing civil engineering and architecture program! 2 years ago US News ranked the civil engineering program 20th in the country. I don’t know about undergraduate but our graduate program in architecture is 20th according to Design Intelligence and I know tons of architecture majors (who get nearly no sleep because it’s a lot of work). I’m a civil engineering major at Clemson and I’ve been challenged and have loved my major so far.

Let me know if you have any questions! But Clemson would be the best option in South Carolina for architecture and civil engineering.

San Diego is considered the third ranked UofCA school. However, for some majors (such as animal science or agriculture), I would choose Davis. Irvine and Davis are comparable, one is NorCal and the other is SoCal. Also, it probably depends on the major once again. CalPoly tends to have more practical programs as it is part of the CSU system. I knew one kid who went to Irvine and then switched to CalPolySLO because he liked the hands-on approach to engineering program at CalPoly. CalPoly also has a very good accounting program. And, of course, the architecture program at CalPoly is outstanding. I think UCSB has a few programs that are better than Irvine or Davis - namely statistics and accounting, but you should check the rankings by dept to be sure.
