Good Colleges for someone living in Upstate NY Area

I live in upstate ny, what would be some good colleges to look at.
My sat is mid 1300’s
Act is 29
Also would it be worth it to go to a college far away, such as California, Washington State.
Thanks

Major? What can you afford/

Best options would be nearby SUNY’s.

Are you a senior now?

Do you want to stay in NY? If so, take a look at
Hobart
St Lawrence
Skidmore
Syracuse

Yeah I’m a senior, and I’m between political science or biology, or computer science. And I’m fine with going out of NY. For tuition I can afford probably 50,000 a year for all 4 years

Why don’t you look at a SUNY honors program and save money for grad school or a car or someplace to live after college?

Albany and Plattsburgh have good poli sci departments and Plattsburgh’s bio department is known as well. There’s also Stony Brook, but those stats aren’t likely to get honors (not an insult, they are better my son’s) for science.

St. Lawrence, UVermont, UMaine

U of Maine orono is offering to match tuition of your in-state school BTW

I echo St. Lawrence
for CS you might want to look at Clarkson.
Alfred (there are two Alfreds, one public and one private.)
Wells offers a chance to take courses at cornell
Echoing Hobart WS
Union is strong in CS and engineering etc.

Stony Brook University for biology or computer science, in-state for you. Don’t go to Stony Brook if you don’t want STEM.

If you are not sure of your direction, you may not be able to graduate in 4 years. Do you have enough resources to go longer at $50K/yr? Any it goes up every year. Like others said, there is no added value in going out of state unless your state school does not have a program you want (funny I am writing this as my own son is making OOS list). Why do our kids always want to go OOS? It is better to save your money for grad school.

St Lawrence, Union, Clarkson, Marist, UBuffalo.

However, since you have a nice budget, you can afford to apply to:
Penn State (you can apply for IST/people and communication, or SODA which is stats&CS applied to politics), Cal Poly SLO, CPP, Elon, UNC-Wilmington (Honors), ASU Barrett?
For a reach, UMaryland College Park

What were your math and CR SAT scores? Does the 1300 include Writing?
