Good community service to start during summer?

I'm looking to become more involved in the Berkeley community and I was thinking that volunteering would be a great way to do so. In high school I did a lot of volunteer tutoring and also headed a fundraiser for a foodbank, but I'm a little lost as to the different programs that are available from UCB clubs/local organizations. So far I've browsed the official club listing, as well as thought about volunteering at the Oakland Children's Hospital, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for something they felt was particularly worthwhile and well organized? I've done Berkeley Project and that was really well run, but they sent me to a local magnet school which wasn't exactly very needy, so something different than that would be good.

Thanks.

There’s a program at the Berkeley YMCA (downtown) that helps underprivileged high school students prepare for and apply to college. I can’t remember the name of the program, but you could probably google it. I’ve heard great things about it, and it might be something that would interest you.

ahhh thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely check that out.

any other suggestions? :)
