I lov musical theatre but am definitely much stronger of an actor, as such I think I will benefit most from taking private lessons and getting my BFA in Acting. I’d still like to be able to do musicals or take classes and know some programs (Like Hartt) don’t allow crossovers. What are some that do?
Otterbein. Students audition for all shows, including plays, musicals and the dance concert. My son is a BFA Acting major, but he has had dance daily for the past two years (all BFA MT and Acting take dance Freshman year) and has also had weekly private voice lessons.
CCPA Roosevelt provides some vocal training for acting BFAs and if you have a lot of AP credits, you can swap out your electives for voice or dance lessons. You can also audition for both acting and MT productions – however this works mostly to the benefit of the MT kids who sometimes get leads in straight plays, very rare for an acting BFA to get anything but ensemble in a musical.
