Good EC's for college?

What are some good EC’s for college? I’m in 9th and currently don’t do any extra curricular sod electives. My school only offers the core classes: math, science, history, Spanish and English. I want to start up some extracurriculars that could make me stand out I do not like sports like at all I’d rather shop or watch Netflix. I used to play the harp but traded it for English tutoring which has bumped my English grade up to all As since I started tutoring. I did martial arts for 2 years but decided to focus more on school. So what are some good EC’s for me that can make me stand out?

Whatever you want to do is good enough for colleges as long as you commit to it and, if you want to stand out, have high achievements in it. It seems like you can’t handle extracurriculars alongside schoolwork, though, so I’m not sure what to tell you.

Most colleges don’t require ECs – about 85% of them. Please explode this myth. Do what you have time and preference for – but not at the expense of your GPA and taking a rigorous schedule as possible.

If you are aiming at selective colleges doing nothing outside class is not a good idea. My kids got involved in things their friends were doing and/or that they were interested in. Literary magazine, orchestras and bands, Science Olympiad, Academic Team, Newspaper, Model UN or Model Congress. All are fine - it really depends what your are interested in.

Based on your posting history, you’re extremely nervous about career (financial advisor, lawyer, CEO, etc). “I’d rather shop or watch Netflix.”

Perhaps you should try to enliven or jump start your ability to really enjoy learning and doing things of substance-- that means your academic work and other issues that interest you – not simply to meagerly plop onto your resume.

But a warning: it’s not what you do but who you are. Who you are at this point is not a person who is voracious about experiencing new things or academic challenges, it seems. That should be a warning sign to you that your lofty goals might simply be fantasies.

@T26E4 thanks. I defintely am nervous but I just ask any questions I’m curious about on here. I definetly however wouldn’t say my goals are “fantasies” I’m the type of person who if I want to achieve something I work as hard as I can and normally end up achieving it. I also was pretty much born into success and those ways of working and trying have been passed on to me. You don’t really know me but thanks for the help.
