Which schools in the northeast have both good engineering programs and very good financial aid?

Thanks!

Tufts…

But…do will you QUALIFY for very good financial aid?

Do you know how much your family will contribute?

Do you know how much your FAFSA EFC will be and your CSS Profile family contribution could likely be?

Do you have a non-custodial parent?

I haven’t yet calculated my EFC. But regardless, which schools meet need the best? My issue is that I have a bunch of reaches that I probably won’t get into (MIT, Columbia, Cornell, Princeton…) that have unbelievably good financial aid. Then there are the schools that I think I will get into (RPI, WPI, Northeastern…) but I don’t think I will be able to afford them. So I’m betting I will end up at UMass Amherst which isn’t terrible because they have a decent engineering program I hear, but I was just wondering if I had any other viable options.

UVA and UNC-CH meet need but they are very difficult to get into. What are your stats?

RPI and WPI give a lot of merit aid. RIT as well, and it has the advantage of being quite a bit cheaper as well.

My S is at UMass Amherst for engineering and loves it there, it is worth a serious look.

Thanks for the response.

I have 2220 SATs (750 R, 750W, 720M)
I’m taking SAT IIs on Saturday, so I don’t know that yet
3.95 weighted GPA, top 5%
I’m an avid musician, I have my own web design business, fairly good EC stuff…

UVA and UNC-CH are a little far away though. Pennsylvania and New Jersey are about as far south as I’d like to go.

I’m really happy to know that my safety has a solid engineering department. Now there really can’t be any bad outcome to the college admissions process!

Be sure to have some financial safety schools that you really will like to attend. :)

That’s not really the right question. If your family has a high “expected family contribution” that it can’t/won’t pay, then schools like MIT could still be unaffordable.

You need to ask your family how much they will pay and find out what your likely EFC is.

Try using this…

Here’s a data point - with similar stats, RPI and WPI offered my DS $15-17K in merit aid, RIT a little less (although RIT is $8-10K cheaper to start with).

Thanks for the help everyone!

Clarkson, RIT, Alfred (NY Private schools)
Are you from MA? Alfred University would like more students from New England.
Most of their students are from NYS.
