Good Essay Topic?

Prompt: Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn?

I want to write about a time I failed something when I was younger, but I don't know if it was too long ago to write about. Do you think writing about an event from when I was 8 is too young an age for a college essay, even if I include things from other parts of my life?

That depends on what the failure was, can you give us a one sentence summary?

Basically, it was a group sporting event that my team lost.

Nope, you need something that you and only you were responsible for, in the last four years. Just the biggest mistake you made in the last four years and have learned from it since.

((don’t forget to tag me! @Spiral7‌ ))

I would stay away from sports essays in general. They are really overdone. The failure prompt should be about a time where you were unsuccessful, but learned a valuable lesson. Talk about how the lesson you learned has shaped you since then.

Nope, something from that far in the past is wayyy too long ago, especially if it’s a sports essay. Did losing a game at age 8 really help shape you into who you are today, 10ish years later? Find something more recent to focus on. You mentioned things from “other parts in your life” - is there any way to shape those into an essay? Best of luck!
