Good Grades for UChicago?

Hey guys,
After junior year I finished with Straight A’s and 1 B+ so far for all of my final grades, grade 9-11.
I know this is very good, but I’m not so sure how a B+ looks for a competitive school like UChicago.
(The B+ was in AP Chem btw)
If any of you guys were recently admitted to UChicago, do you mind giving me feedback about how your grades were?
I really don’t get how gpas work, since different schools have different GPA scales.
My current GPA is a 4.24(i think out of 5.0 weighted), but i really don’t know whether that’s good or not.
Thanks!

given just the information above (missing things like strength of schedule and school reputation and the like) the B+ in AP Chem won’t hurt you. My son was accepted in class of '22 and he did have a B+ in AP Physics (of course that was after acceptance, so might not be similar at all). But from what I read one AP B+, assuming you have multiple strong AP A’s will not hurt you by itself.

The rest of your application will determine your acceptance.

Thanks so much! So far I have taken 3 AP Classes (Stats and English) and I received an A and A-(respectively) in those classes. My school is ranked within the top ten in my state(it is very competitive). Congrats to your son! I’m sure he’ll love UChicago!

Even a couple B’s are not going to hurt you - as long as you are taking a rigorous course load you are fine. The AO’s know the high schools and what how an A from one school compares to another. I think my son received a B+ in multivariable calculus one semester and possibly even a semester in calc AB sophomore year - can’t remember.

As BrianBoiler stated above, the rest of your application is very important - as is when you apply. ED1 will give the best chance of admission if UChicago is your first choice. Your essays are extremely important - spend some time on those and be sure they show who you are and how you will be a positive addition to the school.

Best of luck this fall!

Your essays and class rank will be key, given a “good enough” GPA. Even if class rank is not stated explicitly, they are able to infer it from the grade distribution report that the school sends along with your transcript
