Good idea... or bad?

So I really really like one of the UChicago essays from last year (the one about "what function are you?" for those of you who are familiar with it). Would it be a good idea to choose option 6 on the Common App Essay section and write an essay about this? I feel that I could write a much better essay about this than about any of the Common App topics, but I'm a little unsure about whether or not I'm allowed to use it and how using it would be viewed by other colleges.

I'm sorry if you think this belongs in the Official Common App thread... I thought it would be better as a thread of its own.

um....i don't see why not. you can be flexible. It's a topic of your choice. that means anything. I'm pretty sure people have chosen crazier ideas than a past uchicago topic..

It's topic of your choice. You're not downgraded if you don't pick one of the more specific essay questions. They're just there to give you an idea if you have no clue what to write.
