Good idead to take CSE 143 & Math 126 at the same time?

Hey guys, can you please shed some light on your new husky fellow regarding some classes at UW Seattle. I got accepted into UW during summer quarter, then decided to take CSE 142 for fun, it turned out to be a fun and enjoyable experience for me.

I'm planning to take CSE 143 (w/ Reges), Math 126, and Drama 201 for my upcoming quarter, However, the student advisor and all my friends at UW right now who have taken those classes suggested that i should split the Math 126 (calc3) from CSE 143 because the two will be very difficult to master at the same time. Instead, they suggest I should swap CSE 154 (web programming) with Math 126. (I love web programming as much as Calc 3)

Here is my background:
- I have aced all my math classes including precalculus I/II, cal I/II, statistic analysis over in a community college.
- Have been teaching math to a small learning center for almost a year now
- I've been building android app on a side for fun during the summer
- Havent done high level math such as calc 2 in almost a year now

I'm still second guess my ability especially when everyone keep telling me that the two classes are really hard to understand, but then again that what they said about CSE 142 (i didn't get a 4.0 but I'm more than happy a 3.9 i got in CSE 142).

What do you think, are CSE 143 & Math 126 are truly a killer combo ? please articulate and help me out?

FYI: I'm planning to apply for CSS at UW Bothel because CSE at UW Seattle is too damn competitive. But i will give CSE a shot if i do well in my upcoming quarter. btw im pump for next quarter, cant wait to do more math and coding again haha :)

CSE 143 is a step up from CSE 142. For some people, it will still be quite the breeze, but others really struggle with the class. Have you looked at the syllabus and tried learning some of the concepts on your own? It may give you a better idea of how fast you can grasp 143 material.

CSE 143/Math 126 is a common killer combo because students aren’t used to handling the amount of work between the two together. I personally didn’t take those two together; I had a Math 125/CSE 143/Honors writing course schedule when I took 143 and a Math 126/CSE 190m/CSE331/CSE390 schedule when I took Math 126.

Part of choosing the classes with the possibility of having a “killer” schedule is … how much time are you willing to spend on the classes? Are you concerned with having a social life this quarter, or are you okay with giving that up and spending almost your time studying if the combination of classes does become too much?

@speedsolver thanks for your input, to be honest with you i think i’m kinda okay with CSE 143 materials such as recursive, link-list…etc thats cause my brother is a CSS major he has been trying to teach me things ahead of time in his free time. On top of that, I’ve been trying to teach myself with php, css, html for the past year which lead to me make the next decision.

I made my final decision to swap Math 126 with CSE 154(web-programming) because I find it more useful. On top of that, i think UW seattle offer probably the best CSE introductory classes in the state, i cant believe how much i learn from CSE 142 !!

For me, dollar for dollar, i would see more promising benefit from CSE 154 than Math 126.

Have fun! :)
