Good Internships that don't require GPA?

Silly inquiry but are there any prestigious, competitive, or good internships that don't particularly require you list your gpa? My gpa is incredibly low at the moment and I'm afraid I won't be a to snag a good internship because I wrecked it freshman year. I think my reasoning behind such an abysmal gpa is justified however: my mother lost her business and is currently homeless. Hasn't been able to find work and could not contribute to my education. I, in result, had to carry the burden of providing assistance to her and getting myself to school (I've been financing my entire college education myself) and on top of all that I was a varsity athlete and the time commitment along with the stress of matters back home killed any confidence I had.

Things have gotten much better this year, my family issues are still terrible, but academically I've excelled and I'm maintaining an A/A- average in all classes sophomore year. But still, my gpa probably won't be anywhere near respectable until into my Junior Year but I'd like to see if there was any chance that I might be able to gain a good summer internship (paid?) now.

I really don't care where I intern, as long as it's a distiguishable company or organization and hopefully offers a paid intern position. I was thinking Google, Apple, Nordstrom, MTV, JP Morgan caliber, but I understand that even those are hard to break into for even competitive applicants. But I really think I have other things going for me other than my gpa. I don't have a certain career or occupation in mind, which is why I'm not leaning towards a particular company or field.

Is there any hope? What should I do? Thanks!

You can always report your “major GPA” or “GPA since sophomore year” to show that your overall GPA doesn’t really reflect the kind of student you are now. You should also network as much as possible. Reach out to alumni working at companies you’d like to intern at and ask them if they’d be willing to refer you. A referral has a much greater chance of getting you to the interview stage.
