i'm applying to a few grad school in early december deadlines. i def need to study quite a bit before the exam. so i gotta get a plan!

when should i take GRE? should i try to take it a bit early so i can have another chance at it?
when should be the last day to take GRE for early december deadlines?

If NOT this year, then do it over the summer so that if you flunk it, you can re-take it in October. Generally by mid-October for early deadlines.

In that case if you're applying this year, you're probably screwed if you're trying to get a GRE exam (and study for it if you haven't yet) as October dates tend to fill up pretty fast.

For the computer based GRE, scores are sent out within 10-15 days after you take the exam, according to the ETS website. So not sure why mid October is the cutoff. Not saying it's the best of ideas, since there's no time to retake if you bomb it, but you could take it in early November and still be fine.

Because it takes 10-12 weeks for scores to be sent to schools. Some schools will take them individually but I suspect that many will order a batch of scores at once... and you want to be in the earlier pool.
