Good luck to everyone who is applying for the University of Chicago class of 2010. Chicago is a terrific school with an intellectually electrified atmosphere. I applied to Chicago last year and was accepted. I almost went there, myself. If anyone has any questions about ANYTHING, then feel free to message me.

Thanks. I just wish December 15 (or 16/17/18) would get here! :(

Thanks. Just out of curiousity, where are you now and why didn't you go to UChi?

I am currently at Harvard with my good pal BlackNBlue, uchicago just wasnt good enough for us.

UChi doesn't need pple like you either... tough luck for Harvard

Hey Ria, deducing from his "location" we can reasonably guess that he attends WashU...

I think he attends Emory; he's pretty active in that forum.

I have a question for you:
My family's going to be leaving for Paris on Dec 16, and won;t be back until Jan 3.
1. I live in the chicagoland area, about an hour away from the campus. Will I get the decision by the 16th? and...
2. If not, can I check the decision online in Paris?
I would really hate to have to wait until the 3rd to see if I got in or not.

I think you can call admissions after the decisions release date. Good lucK!

I applied regular decision to Chicago. I currently attend Emory. The decision between Chicago and Emory was very tough. I ultimately chose the later because of a better financial aid package (my family is poor), better weather, and because I felt that I could get a higher gpa there. Because I want to go to Harvard Law, I need to get a high GPA in college. And Chicago, with all of its grade deflation and academic militarism, is not the place to do this. However, I still think that Chicago is one of the best schools in the country, and anyone who goes there is of superior caliber. I'll be glad to answer any other questions.

One piece of advice: If you really want to go to Chicago, then let your admission counselor know this. I emailed/wrote to my adcom about two times. (however, don't be harrasing)

I am actually in the middle of writing my admissions counselor. I'm having trouble writing it, actually.

What should I put in the letter? And how do I start it? I started to write about why I wanted to go there, but I wasn't sure if I should explicitly say, "It's my first choice...and I love the econ department".

Also, do you think email or paper is better for the letter? I was planning on using paper, because it might grab more attention.

Finally: Is it too late to send one if I'm applying early action?

Thanks!

"It's my first choice...and I love the econ department".
---saying this sounds very cliche and uninteresting. Unless you can do something interesting with this, then I would advise you to find a new opening.

I like the paper application better. I hate online applications because they are so monotonous, in my opinion. Also, it's harder to attached additional information to an online application.

I think that the deadline for EA has passed.

I was accepted last year but chose Oberlin...where fun goes for fun......but I love the "QUIRKY" messages on the U of C board.
I have an essay question. I recently saw an extended (6 pagesi think? maybe 4) cartoon by Linda Barry that would have made an awesome chicago essay. It was about how as you get older friends and teachers sometimes try to sabotage you and how you have to trust yourself and your talent and plow through it. Did anyone write or draw their U of C essay in a radically non-traditional format ? Like a poem, song, graphic piece? I wonder how the chicago admin team would evaluate a really unusual essay ....if it was really good.

Hey vtoodler, when did you receieve your decision if you applied EA last year?

I applied regular, and I recieved my decision on March 30, I think.
