I'm very excited that I got into UNC-Chapel Hill and every day it looks like i am going to end up in Chapel Hill more and more. My problem is that I really want to visit UNC before accepting admission (attending Exploring Carolina or another program) but it seems that I won't be able to due to some serious financial concerns (i may even be a Carolina Covenant Scholar). I am from Connecticut so with travel and expenses for my mom staying in a room, the time she will have to take off from work, it just looks like I can't visit. My question is there anything I can do to get a better picture of the university? Any fairs, or programs I can get in contact with? Should I go to a university that I have never visited before? What do you guys think?

I would suggest getting in touch with admissions and explaining your situation..as you have done here. I think they would be able to help you. And I would think there might be a Carolina alumni network in your area; just meeting with any Carolina alum might be useful, too. But I'd first contact the u.g. admissions office. In our experience, the administrators at Carolina have been very helpful and generous of their time.

You can also order the video from collegiate.com. I ordered seven of the videos ($15.00) each and was very satisfied with their contents..

what kind of content is on the video(s)?

It is basically what you would see if you went on the tour of the school. It is not a professional video by any means but they show you the campus, the academic buildings, classrooms, a dorm room, the eating facilities, etc. The video guy also asks a lot of questions of the tour guide i.e. academics, clubs, programs, study abroad, etc. We got the one for Duke and later visited the campus and it felt like deja vu! I really feel they are worth the $15.00. D also went back to watch them again before her interviews to refresh her memory with details about the campus and the opportunities there. If you go to their website I am sure there is more detailed information there..

thanks, i will definately look into it.

I would suggest going on your own, without your mom. Call admissions and see if you can stay in the dorm for a night. Would give you a good feel of the school and save $$$.
