Hi, I go to a private school, one of the best in the country, but our school doesn’t offer specific AP courses. We can choose to take the AP exams, but self-studying is required. What do you think would be a good number of APs for me to take? Thanks!
There is no AP test requirement for college admission. Some students get accepted with 0 while others get accepted with 15. For a shot at the Ivies, I would recommend 7+, but that is a not a clear boundary. In addition, make sure that your AP tests actually give you credit at the colleges you are considering… it would be a waste of time and money if you self-study an AP exam that is worthless in terms of college credit.
If your school is truly one of the best in the country, you shouldn’t have to worry about having to take AP exams to look good on your collage application. However, if you plan on attending a school that accepts AP credit, I would take the corresponding exams to whatever classes you’re in so that you only have to put in a little bit of extra studying and potentially save thousands of dollars.
