good old SAT, bad new SAT and SATII...

Darnit, I know there's a thread just like this already. But those stats are actually better than mine, and now I'm getting really worried.

Old SAT I had 790M/760V = 1550
New SAT I have 740M/740V/790W = 2270

That sounds reasonably okay, but then I read that Princeton doesn't mix/match old and new SAT scores! So I would have a 1480 with the math and verbal of the new one!!! Maybe shelling out $700 for test prep like everyone else would have been a good idea.

1480 for a chinese female... then there are the bad SATII scores...

Chinese w/L: 780
Math 2C: 760 <-- retaking
USH: 720
Chemistry: 680...... <-- retaking and actually studying this time

Questions: Why doesn't Princeton mix/match SAT scores like everyone else (rhetorical actually)?! Should I retake USH in addition to Chem and Math (but that would be the exact same 3 tests I took in May, and I don't really think I would study for USH and improve)? Are my chances totally shot?!

More questions: Will it help if I sent in an arts supplement? What if my essay is just the most amazing thing they have ever read?

Yes, I know you can't get into Pton on high scores alone, but it seems I've ruined my chances with low scores...

If having a shot at Princeton was important to you, why didn't you prep for the tests? I never understand posters who want top schools and then say they didn't prepare! There's still time.

Before, I had pretty much resigned myself to attending UT Austin just for financial reasons. Then in the summer, I actually started looking at schools and saw that good aid was available at Princeton, among other places.

Additionally, I was naive and thought that SATIIs were like the SAT - where one just figured things out during the test with common sense. Also, it was in the middle of the two AP test weeks, so I thought my AP studying would suffice. However, I was surprised with the weird format of the SATII test (in Chem anyway).

Anyhow, yes, I already know the poor scores are my fault. That wasn't what I was looking to confirm.

Please please for the love of God DO NOT take that Math IIC again. Come on, 760 is fantastic. That's almost inane to take it again. 760 is a pretty high percentile. To Pton, I don't think a 760 makes a difference from an 800, they're both so high. Taking it again would just make you look score hungry.

Of course, if you are absolutely positively certain you can get an 800 (4-5 questions wrong), then go take it. Otherwise, you'll look silly.

760 is not that high a %ile on the IIc. On any other test, yes, but on IIc it's like a 70%ile.

Yes, thank you, I already know that... This whole thread is already about acknowledging my low SATs... which is why I'm retaking.

machiavelli:

I have the same problem. I don't think it's too big of a deal though; Princeton will probably look at both your old and new scores.

my old: 790M/750V=1540
new: 780M/690V/800W=2270.

Machiavelli, I was talking to bill_smear.

ugh those aren't low SATS. someone shoot me now for all those that think that's "omg, so bad, so low". i frickin had a 1400 and got in. if u score over 700, god, over 720 for sure, you're ok i swear.

i know someone who didn't even break 1300 and got in.

Sorry about that blendecho x( I'm already planning to retake it anyway, despite bill_smear's comments.

magnusrex - Yay we're in the same boat!

pegdiver - I know people with lower scores than that do get in. But they have other stuff to support their apps. I just want to know what kinds of "other stuff" I should focus on - i.e. the aforementioned arts supplement or a very personal essay. Also, I have that Asian standard working against me...

Of course pegdivers friend with the 1300 was a blind URM who is an olympic athlete......
