good schools in Philly

so i just came back from a missions trip in Philly, and i absolutely fell in love with the city!!!

does anyone know schools in PHilly that are good?
I know UPENN ,but preferably schools that i would have a good chance of getting into, but is still good

my sat scores:
CR 610
M 760
W 680

THANKS!!

philadelphia university may be a good spot for you…it may be on the low end for you (meaning a possible safety), but you may get some money from them.

Schools in Philly with BARCH programs are Drexel, Temple and Phila U. I agree that Phila U would be a safety for you. Drexel’s program is harder to get into because they only take about 28 students. …not sure about Temple.

Our arch program at Temple is very competitive. Don’t bother with Philadelphia U. No one knows it exists.

so now, is Temple a good school? cuz i heard it wasnt that great

and is Phila U any good? sounds like it isnt
and does anyone know anything about Drexel?

What is a “good school” to you? Location? Selectivity?

Drexel is a good school, depending on what you are going to major in. The architecture department is very small and somewhat selective (they do not require a portfolio). The difference with that program is that you go to school full-time for two years, and then part-time for the next four. In those last four years, you work full-time in an architecture firm by day, and take night classes. You get a salary from your job, and pay part-time tuition to Drexel. It’s a good way to gain experience and a feeling for the profession, but it is a six year BArch program.

Most underrated school in the country. Anyone who said it isn’t great is an idiot.

I have never met anyone who goes to Phila U and I live 20 minutes away. I hadnt heard of it until I went to college. I wouldn’t go there.

Drexel? Eh, it’s not a bad school, but Temple is a MUCH better value.

How about Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh though it is far from Philly still in Pennsylvania? You need to submit portfolio and SAT subject tests on top of reasoning test result…Good luck!

Because CMU 1) is nowhere near Philly and 2) he asked for schools in Philly?

Let’s be more positive, OK?

Of course they do. It has an accredited program

Additional information is always helpful for comparison. Especially information about CMU.

Yes, there is a good tuition break if you are a Pennsylvania resident. Otherwise, it’s hard to say which is the better value unless your compare apples to apples: to wit, the bottom line when you receive the financial aid information from both schools.

Though I have to say, diontechristmas, it’s clear that you do love your school!

Temple = Drexel > Phila U.

That said, none of them are that great for you. Unfortunately, you’re somewhat in the middle; too good for Temple/Drexel and not good enough for UPenn. There aren’t really any other arch schools in Philly.

Penn State is an excellent program, and CMU is arguably better. They’re not in Philly though.

Granted.
But consider the scholarship opportunities if you are on the high end academically compared with the other applicants. My son received very little financial aid from CMU, and a lot from Drexel (enough so it was almost the same cost as our state school).

villanova is pretty close to Philly and its a very good school with good basketball!

Great school, but no architecture program.

Absolutely laughable.

Uhm, no sorry. Temple is a good school, but it isn’t that good. I certainly wouldn’t go there over Cmu, Penn, Psu or Pitt. I’d probably go there over Drexel though, if only forthe nicer campus. I’d choose Temple over the state system as well (California, edinboro, indiana, etc)

Uhm, yes sorry. That’s your prerogative, but I would never go to PSU, CMU or Pitt. Drexel? HA!

Go Owls.

I live in Philadelphia. The schools that are considered good here are: Drexel, Upenn, USP (I’m not sure about this one), and Swarthmore (bit outside of Philly). Temple is good I guess, but it isn’t really selective.

Well you clearly dont know much about our schools then. I would call under 60% (and getting lower every year) ‘selective’…

Temple is a tier 3 university. As in, it isn’t ranked in the top 100.

Drexel is more expensive, but is ranked 88th in the first tier, significantly ahead of Temple.

Pitt - 56th.

CMU - 22nd.

It’s great to be supportive of your school, but not when you’re putting down other places that are obviously better (using any sort of objective ranking system.)
