To preface, I have a clear first choice dream school-Cornell. Problem is, with such a selective school, one can never be certain of acceptance. In light of this, I've been looking forced to look at other schools, and one thing I've been wondering about is their rowing programs. The only problem I have with Cornell is that their rowing team is beast, so I certainly wouldn't make the team. Does anybody know of any decent/good schools that have weak rowing programs so that I would be able to make the team rather than have to row club? To filter it down, I'm looking at doing econ/polisci, so engineering focussed schools are out for me.

What’s wrong with doing club? A lot of schools treat it similar to varsity. Academics come before school - if you suffer an injury and can’t do crew any more, will you wish you tried for your dream school?

Georgetown has a good but walk on heavy crew team and I think we have a great polisci department.

@Knights: Well, nothing is wrong with club, and if I got into Cornell I’d chuck every other letter in the trash, so it’s not like I’d put my hobby over my future, but considering the statistical probability that I won’t get into my dream school, I should look into other options.
@hec-I didn’t know about gtown’s crew team, thanks. I like gtown as a school, so it’d be an extra point for it.

Well they are N. Champs, but many walk on. Plus there are multiple rowing clubs around town due to the campus location on Lake Mendota and other lakes in town.

Though the UW is less selective than Cornell, its Econ and Poli Sci depts are considered, by most rankings, better than at Cornell.

There are some experienced crew parents and athletes there who might be able to help. Good luck!

Your thread title cracks me up! Next we’ll see: Good schools with empty football stadiums.

Lol mom2collegekids. That would be Cornell as well.

IthacaKid - good luck to you. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and Cornell.

Thanks all. I’ll have to look into Wisconsin, and when I have more recent times, I’ll post something up in the recruits section.
