Are there any good ones? Happykid is interested in Lighting Design and Stage Management. I don't want to waste any more time looking at "Theater" programs that are buried inside English departments, and at so-called "Tech" programs that are buried inside acting-focused theater programs which is what I find with collegematchmaker and all of the others I've tried so far.

The best information I found was right here.

Many, if not all, of the name schools are listed on the Technical Theater thread. To find less well-known schools, I would first ask here about theater programs in the geographic areas you’re considering, then look at the tech curriculum at those schools. Of course, the bargains will be in your state (and contingent states with reciprocity agreements). I also found the Directory of Theater Training Programs to be useful for detail on each school.

The truth is not many schools offer this major. Even some of the name schools can have very few classes in a some areas. UCLA, for example, offers ONE class in stage management. However, the flip side is not many students are looking for a tech theater major so you are in a good position once you have your list.

Mike Lawler has written a book that we found very useful. It was titled: Careers in Technical Theater. He also has information available on his website: Mikelawler.com. Hope this helps.
