Hi guys i was wondering how much the interview plays a role in admissions. My interview lasted 3 hours instead of 45 minutes and the interviewer said they really hoped i got in and would right an outstanding report. They also emailed me back and forth a few times after the interview about Yale. So is this a good sign or just meaningless?

It can’t hurt.

General rule of thumb is that a bad interview is really bad and a good interview isn’t so helpful. While it clearly can’t hurt, it won’t change a deferral to an acceptance (or a rejection into an acceptance).

^ I think you meant to say “(or a rejection into a deferral)”. A good interview certainly won’t get a rejected applicant in.
