good student at rutgers?

You have to wait until April, see where you get in, and weigh your options. Like everyone. Best of luck to you!

Kungfumaster...how do you know you definately have a free ride to RUTGERS? As a mom of a 09 applicant we haven't heard about completely free rides...S is good student ...applied to a broad range of schools...small, huge, ivy, little ivy and RU. He has an interview w/Brown coming up.....we are classic middle income...not sure what,if any, money is out there in this economy.....RU full ride would be well-received!

In-state students with a certain combination of class rank and SAT scores have historically had a standard formula of aid from Rutgers and the College of New Jersey (probably other NJ state colleges too)--I am not sure if the OP is quite as sure a bet as it sounds but there has been a clear-cut formula at least for lower levels of tuition assistance. Possibly for the super top NJ kids that full ride projection is accurate..

kungfu my son works at one of the big NYC investment banks and Rutgers is well represented. There may be some geographic bias, and they are most likely top students at a very large school, nonetheless Rutgers has a good name in the New York market.

Did you apply to TCNJ? They used to give a lot of merit money, I don't know if that's still true. Currently it seems more high scorers ( I mean top ten and 1400+ m and cr) from our hs go there rather than Rutgers, although I think RU has a stronger national reputation. Both are good choices. Although Rutgers has a sizable lower end, like most large state schools you'll also find a large upper end centered around the honors program. Grad schools and employers know this.

First-Year Scholarships

Here you go everyone, scholarship info for 2009. You are correct, however, you need SAT's>1500 and top 5% rank to be CONSIDERED for the full ride scholarship.

"We will consider students who:

* Submit their application and all credentials including application fee or fee waiver request form, transcript or Self-Reported Academic Record, officially reported SAT or ACT scores with Writing, by December 1, 2008, our priority application date. (As a courtesy, we will use improved test scores from tests administered no later than January 1, 2009 to determine scholarship awards).
* Submit the essay with the application
* Are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident"

I know a few smart kids at Rutgers who chose it over top schools like Johns Hokpins in the case of one of my friends. It's just a tough reality to swallow on some level.

Where did you choose to go?

I doubt you’ll find out since the OP hasn’t posted in three years.
