Good Things

Can any one list good things from UCR

its a "uc"

hahah there is no spirit in the Uc Riverside forums

I guess UCR students ain't motivated like everyone says.... All the other UC's have pages of posts lol

uc riverside is ethnically diverse... i guess that's good... hah.

good... things?

it's in california, there are probably hot girls somewhere

not in riverside lol

there's hot girls in riverside, it's just that the majority of them are stupid, so they end up going to Riverside Community College. I live in Riverside and I can't think any good things about it.

1.Nice campus
2.Pretty girls
3.Diverse
4.Nice dorms I guess

It's the only UC where you can major in Business.....other UCs there is only Economics offered....

thats not true...you can major in business at berkeley too

*UCR has the worlds largest collection of Citrus as well as science fiction literature.
*The "C" is the largest concrete block letter in the US.
*First Ph.D. in Dance History/Theory.
*Only Creative Writing B.A. in UC, one of very few in US.
*Sends more students to UCLA school of med than UCLA or any other school in US.
*40% of students go on to grad school, above the national average.
*Home to the Cal. Museum of Photography, which houses the largest collection of stereographic images.
*Belltower contains 48 bells, 5162 holes and is 161 feet high.
*Our first class president, Charles Young, has a library named after him at UCLA...yes, the Young Research Library....where he was a Chancellor for 30 years, longer than any other chancellor at UC.

UCR looks a lot nicer than Cal Poly Pomona......I visit to both of the campuses

There are a lot of good things from UCR but I prefer to answer specific questions .

Is it true that the grading curve is very generous for good students? How dangerous is it to walk around in Riverside? Is it really as boring as people say?

Riverside, the city, is boring. The campus life is quite interesting and there is usually always something to do on the weekends. It is not dangerous at all to walk around Riverside unless it's the middle of the night and you start seeing suspicious people walking around all over the place. As for the grading curve, no it is not generous. Most of the time, there won't even be a curve in your class and if there is a curve, it usually barely helps you out. It's a UC, not a community college, so don't expect a walk in the park.

Riverside, the city, is boring.

how does it stack up against Irvine? Seems pretty similar to me, just fewer stores. Merced, is that a powerhouse of entertainment? Davis? These places offer different things to different people. Some may love a more urban place (LA, Berkeley), rural (merced, davis) or suburban (Irvine, Riverside), and this determines excitement.

Compare Riverside to Boston or LA and it ain't got nothing. It's on par with your typical college suburban place, basically.

Some people look down on UC Riverside and make haughty comments; however, I look at UCR from a positive side. I used to live in Moreno Valley near Riverside. Of course, Orange County is a definitely better place to live in, I guess. But Riverside is not a really bad and boring city as some guys are just grumbling. In Riverside, there are many interesting places to visit, and many things to do, objectively speaking.

I visited UCR many times, the buildings are nice looking, and students are friendly and kind. Actually UCR is one of the schools that I wish to go to. In my opinion, UCR has a good honor program, and it offers reputable business and engineering programs. In UCR, a lot of opportunities will be offered to motivated students.

In the new 2006 college rankings published by US News:
* UCR's ranking went up to No. 85 at the category of National Universities, Top Schools. (U. of Arizona: 97, U. of Oregon: 115, Washington State U.: 120)
* UCR is ranked at No. 77 for the Best Business Program at schools whose highest degree is a doctorate. (San Diego State: No. 77, U. of San Diego: 87, Cal Poly SLO: 141) Also note that only UC Berkely and UCR offer business prgrams amoung UC's).
* UCR is ranked at No. 87 for the Best Engineering Program at schools whose highest degree is a doctorate. (UC Santa Cruz: 97, George Washington U.: 102, San Diego State U.: 102).

In conclusion, I guarantee that in FIVE(5) years, UCR will have much better reputation!!
