hows the riverside campus look? and the city itself? I'm transferring there in fall.
thanks

Pros:

The buildings are new and nice because UCR has a lot of extra money

The campus looks pretty nice

Housing is cheap

Cons:

Riverside County is ranked 4th worst in the country for air pollution, easily a rival of LA

Riverside is a ghetto. The KFC nearby has bars on its windows and an armed security guard.

I’ve had so many friends get their **** jacked even on campus

I’ve witnessed full sideshows (ghetto as ****) at the University Apartment parking structure

And for the record I grew up ghetto. It’s the naive suburban kids who say Riverside isn’t ghetto because they have a false sense of security and don’t know what crime is. Now it’s not nearly as bad as like say Santa Ana, Inglewood, or some other places in the IE, but it is a ****ty city nonetheless. Property is cheap for a reason. Diversity is just a buzzword.

OK i work at the nordstrom in riverside and although I work at wonderful nordstrom :), riverside is still a kinda ghetto in certain area. I mean its not horrible but depending where you are in Riverside, it can be ghetto. Almost the whole entire university ave is ghetto. But you will have fun!

damn… like that your making it seem pretty bad. well I live in bakersfield, and riverside is the only place i haven’t really seen so i don’t know.

Some buildings are new, yet most are pretty old. But the campus is getting better. The campus is not that big which could be a pro or con depending on who you are. The weather is terrible, it can get VERY HOT during the summer. and the air here is pretty bad. There’s nothing much to do except eat at the University Village which isn’t too far from campus, but besides that you have to have a car to do anything fun. The campus is poorly lit during the night so be careful during night classes. The riverside area is pretty ghetto, the only somewhat nice area is around the university but travel a little further out and you’ll see how ghetto it is. There are alot of buses that go around campus and further out if you don’t have a car and need to get to the train station or something. The public transportation is pretty decent, and you get to ride the RTA bus for free with your student ID card. i think the best part of riverside is the CHEAP housing.

oh okay. thanks a lot guys. I kind of turned down uci for ucr because I didn’t want to live at home. but its all good, I’ll go there and experience some different things. by the way, how CHEAP is housing? like offcampus because I already missed the residence hall date…

i live in an apartment close to school its about a 15 min walk. its down university ave, its not that bad. they also have trolleys that take you to school also. i live with 3 other room mates we each have our own bedrooms and bathrooms. with a sept-june lease we pay 824 a month but if you take on a whole year contract i believe its about 700 something. we pay an extra 125 for the sept-june lease. there are cheaper apartments but some are kinda ghetto. the hated it here my first year but since i’ll be leaving for ucla next year i’ll be missing it. its not a bad place once you get used to it.

enjoy! there are MANY great professors here!

oh but the apartment i live in is raising their rent next year. and i got free parking this year but not sure about residents for next year. if you have a car you should find housing further away from campus because it will be cheaper. most of my friends live in houses of about 4-5 people and pay less than 500 a month for rent. something else you can look into besides apartments

okay i see. thats not bad I’m looking to get a bed and bath to myself too. your transferring to ucla as a junior, or what?

yeah i’m transferring as a junior

thats cool. hay do you the chances of getting into uci as a psychology major for the winter quarter?

I have no idea. I didn’t think you could apply for winter quarter. Maybe you should give UCI a call.

Thanks ucrucla.
