Good Undergrad Schools for Optometry Major

I really want to be an optometrist, are there any good undergrad schools for optometry major?

You don’t major in optometry. You go to medical school and then go through a residency it optometry. Do your best at whatever college you please while accumulating the courses necessary for whatever medical schools you might like to apply to. THEN, start thinking about the best optometry residency program.

Optometry is its own degree, OD, distinct from MD, correct me if I’m wrong. The MD “equivalent” of optometry would be like ophthalmology.

Yes, unlike Ophtamology, which is a branch of Medicine that requires 4 years of Medical school, Optometry is its own field, but it is a graduate field nonetheless, which means you must first get an undergraduate degree in another major (perhaps Biology or Biochem) before applying to Optometry programs. You will also have to take the OAT (MCAT equivalent for Optometry) before you apply to Optometry programs.

You can study at any well regarded university (top 200 university), and as long as you maintain a high GPA, you should be fine.

Cal has one of the 20 Optometry programs in the US. Below is a link to their admissions stats. You may find it useful.
