I’m going to Macalester in the fall to study Neuroscience. In their program, you choose an emphisis of either Computer Science, Math, Philosophy, or Psychology, which could lead to a wide variety of careers. Personally, I’m planning on doing the Computer Science emphisis and pursuing a career involving Artificial Intellegence. Not all schools have programs like this, but regardless it shows the surprising versatility of a Neuroscience degree.

When I was looking for schools, Macalester, Case Western, and Tulane stood out to me. I had a little higher stats than you, but I limited my search to schools that would have given me a lot of money (need or merit) and weren’t too far away from my relatively large but still present comfort zone (East and West coast schools were out of the question).

i didn’t know that they offered different areas of emphasis with a neuroscience major. artificial intelligence would be a really interesting thing to go into. do you have any idea what the pay and/or job opportunities would be for someone going into that type of field? i want to go to med school, but just in case i don’t get in i want a viable fall back option.

You definitely have a chance for Pitt. Also, rumor has it (who knows if it is true) that the UC schools will be taking more OOS people that are full pay because of the budget issues. Again, that could be totally false, but there has been a lot of talk about it.
