NC State..large urban research university known for engineeering in the capital city (Raleigh) of NC . The brand new Centennial campus for engineering is as techy as you want to get. Next to the college of engineering, the college of management (business) is the largest at the univ.
Access to large airport (RDU). Close proximity to Research Triangle. Travel abroad opportunities.

NC State is also very very competitive, Just as much as Chapel Hilll.
NCS also severely limits OOS by law.

I prefer states north of Virginia(fine as well as D.C,Florida[own a condo])...especially in the northeast/newengland
I haven't heard much on CA.

I will rank states in that helps....

bump
The more opinions the better....

YAY a fellow rhode islander

you should probably TRY PC. I've met people with lower stats who are going. Hampshire is pretty cool about upward trends and stuff. As is Bard.
They're not in cities (Bard's REALLY close and Hampshire is near a couple awesome towns) and maybe you're more into big universities, sorry.
Oh, and SUNY's. The SUNYs are DYING for OOSers

My mother got her Masters from PC, so It is an option, but I am not fond of LACs.
I would prefer UMass Amherst to Hampshire.

sarahdisk123, I imagine you know what I am talking about when I say URI and RIC aren't appealing. URI isn't well known and the academics are meh. RIC is full of A)Teachers B)People who couldn't get into URI(I know someone who failed 1/2 classes that is going there)
BTW....You think I am a shoe in at URI?

All new "thing" 11)If the school runs a large national lab(Think Berkeley with LLNL,LANL,LBNL) that is a plus

Believe me, I know what you're talking about. I made one vow to myself at the begining of high school. I would not be forced to go to RIC. That was the one goal.

But yeah, I think there's a safety school thread on the Admissions board. that might help.
OH! In California, Santa Clara U. It's awesome!
(It IS an LAC, actually, so nvm sorry!)

Santa Clara University isn't a LACs....I have been looking at it as well.

I plan to major in either CompSci,International Relations/Politics, Physics(for Ph.D in Astrophysics), or some type of Engineering(Aerospace,Electrical,Biotech)
[/quote]

Definitely check out University of Arizona. It's tops for astronomy and has some pretty good programs for computer science/engineering. You just have to survive the 100 degree heat. :P

Arizona isn't California though, but I think that you can have a pretty good time in Tucson. It can be a safety for sure. :)

Anything in New England?
Especially Boston...

Well, you may not be interested AT ALL in this suggestion, but what about Univ of Alabama at Huntsville? It is certainly tech-y, and I had the impression that the space program was very big there. It's located in a big business park and supposedly has great internships esp in engineering firms located right next door to the university.

It is easy to get in-state tuition if UA-H likes your stats.

Certainly not Boston, but you might want to give it a passing look .

I see you caught on to Mensa. My niece, who would qualify, has no interest in joining or meeting anyone who belongs to it. She says few people who qualify in the D.C. area belong to it, it's looked down on for some reason.

What does 'meh' mean? Mediocre, or something?

I would rather not be in Alabama

I am still looking in New England Area.

Bump
thanks for all the help guys

meh mean not great

Check out Boston University; it's a large school in a great urban environment. Also has basically every major imaginable.

I would really like to go to BU or NEU.
While they aren't perfect,They are one 45 minutes away from my home.

BU does scare me a bit with grade deflation thought.....

Do you guys think I have a chance at the schools above?
What about Umass Amherst?

bump, thanks for all the help...I guess you guys care about the average grade guy.

I followed you from another thread... :)

Purdue and Fordham (I didn't know about their eng. program) are great options. And to put you in a good mood, in my home country (and our neighbouring countries) Purdue is considered a better university than Brown for whatever reason... Purdue has a pretty good international reputation.

hmm how about RIT?

I like Fordham, located in NYC, sounds nice too..
I am a bit worried about getting lynched since I am red sox fan....
They have a 3-2 with Columbia for Engineering.
But I doubt I would get in.
