CLASS OF 2014- where are you deciding to go for undergrad?! Comment below!

I haven't comitted anywhere but I'm leaning towards UW madison w a concentration on medicine. :) How about you?!

University of Alabama with a Finance major! It’s not the most prestigious school I was accepted to, but it had the best aid (and, to be honest, was my absolute favorite).

Looks like Middlebury with a chemistry major!

Case Western to major in math.

I’m leaning more towards Cornell for computer science, but being close to DC for UMD is a pull factor for me.

University of Kansas (my state flagship). Not my first choice, but I got a lot of merit aid so it would be stupid to go elsewhere with lots of loans.
Currently I’m leaning towards a mechanical engineering major with an emphasis in biomechanics. But that is definitely subject to change! I’ve also considered Civil E, Mechatronics, a major that covers physical therapy pre-reqs, and a host of other majors.

post stats please, if possible.

NYU Tisch for film. Real excited!

Wake Forest University for accounting! Go Deacs!

3.99 unweighted GPA, top 3% (4/136) class rank, 2340 SAT, 35 ACT, three AP classes, seven AP tests, nine university classes, National Merit Finalist, average essays and recommendations, below-average ECs.

I got into the University of Michigan, Case Western, University of Miami, Northeastern Honors, University of Minnesota Honors, UIUC, Ohio State Honors, and Drexel Honors. I’m going to Case because it’s the second-best school I got into (Michigan would be too expensive), I got a lot of merit aid, and I’ll be able to commute.

UC Berkeley as a MCB (molecular and cell biology) major, but I am definitely changing my major to something else, statistics/cognitive science/chemical engineering are alternate possibilities.

Stats: 3.475 UW, 3.84 W, class rank unknown, 2220 SAT (2280 superscore), 7 AP classes, 6 AP tests, 3 community college classes. President’s Volunteer Service Award – Silver, Siemens Semifinalist 2012, 100+ hours community service, a local music award, typical Asian ECs minus the sport and math contests, NaNoWriMo, random small clubs in which I held a negligible leadership role, probably below average recommendations, below average essays.

Other schools I was considering: Case Western, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Cruz. Technically considering a ton of safeties, but I didn’t like any of them. For other rejections/accepts, just look at my stats profile. My list is kind of scarily long. http://www.collegeconfidential.com/profiles/member_stat_view.html?user_id=567967

Reason for choosing UC Berkeley: It was the best school I got into. Now, I don’t mean this just in terms of rankings, though that’s what it looks like. I can commute to Berkeley starting sophomore year, which would save money, which I will use towards grad school. There are good foods available for my dietary restrictions. There’s an abundance of activities I’m interested in. There’s enough people that I don’t have to worry about not having any friends. Plus I can joke about how my sister and I have fierce sibling rivalry (she goes to Stanford).

Is this enough detail for underclassmen?

as long as the financial aid works out, i’m 100% attending barnard. it’s perfect for me and my absolute dream school and i couldn’t be happier about being accepted.

i also applied to rhodes, wellesley, smith, mount holyoke, scripps, yale, rice, and occidental. i was accepted at rhodes, wellesley, smith, scripps, and barnard; i was waitlisted at occidential and moho, and i was rejected at yale and rice.

I’m 90% sure I’ll be going to Cal Poly SLO majoring in earth science, if some weird thing happens, then it’s UIUC for geology

30 ACT 3.8 GPA with average essays and ECs. My major is probably the reason that I got accepted anywhere to be honest.

I was also admitted to UW (seattle), and University of Pittsburgh. I chose Cal Poly because they gave me a scholarship (wasn’t expecting it which is real nice), it’s warmer than the midwest (where I live), and their “learn by doing” method really appeals to me

Cornell University as a GT for biological sciences!!! I kind of want to switch to Animal Sciences now, but we’ll see

I also got into UC Berkeley, UCLA, Boston College, UW, UCSD and UCD. I didn’t apply to that many reach schools, but any future applicants who are reading this really should! College admissions are such a crapshoot. At least apply to four or five reaches because you honestly never know.

Stats: 2320 SAT, 3.88 UW/4.71 W GPA. I didn’t have too many extracurriculars (mostly just track and science-related stuff, a couple of leadership activities) but I was heavily involved in them, so hopefully it showed in my application. I was really proud of my essays, and two of my favorite teachers wrote my recommendations, so that was another plus.

All in all, I would’ve felt that I was a competitive applicant, but my abysmal midyear grades probably did me in for most of my reaches. I was really lucky that Cornell was willing to look past that (or not look at all, since I’ve heard that they don’t really weigh midyears that heavily haha) and give me another chance!

Middlebury College for Economics. But it is most definitely subject to change. I got into other schools like DePaul, UIC, UIUC, Ohio State. Also waitlisted at UChicago. But since I applied to Middlebury ED, I’ve known where I was going for a while.

Stats: 4.2 W (forgot my unweighted tbh), 31 ACT. EC-wise: Student Council, Debate Team, Business Professionals of America, NHS, Cross Country, Asian American Club. Yeah… I’m 95% positive my essays are what got me in. I have a very peculiar personality (for lack of a better term) and I was able to effectively portray that and the benefits of my personality.

So yeah…I’m a MiddKidd.

NYU Stern for business with concentration in finance or Wesleyan for economics. I got into NYU, Wesleyan and Alabama and got wait listed at Vanderbilt.

Stats: 4.0 UW, 4.6 W, 34 ACT, no SAT, National Merit Finalist, Governor’s Scholar, various scholar awards around the community, decent ECs but nothing phenomenal.

I’m really happy about NYU. Vanderbilt was definitely my number one choice, but NYU Stern and Wesleyan are very close seconds. I didn’t want to drop hundreds of dollars on Ivy League apps, and I didn’t really feel like taking SAT subject tests, but I guess in this case laziness pays off!

Sarah Lawrence College, not sure exactly what I’m going to study yet.

Trying for a full IB Diploma. Don’t know what other stats to post as my school’s system is a bit unorthodox. No GPA and class ranks.

I’m going to University of Washington-Seattle
I got accepted to: UW (obviously), UCSB, UCI, U of San Diego, & University of Oregon
Waitlisted at UCLA
Rejected from: Chapman University (film program), and USC.
My GPA is a 3.7 and SAT is 2030. I always thought about UW since I was a sophomore, and I’ve visited and loved it. It has a very collegiate feel and it’s like 15 minutes from downtown Seattle, which I love. It ended up being kind of an easy choice once I thought about the price of USD, ruled it out, then realized I definitely wasn’t a beachy type of person, and ruled out UCSB as well. I’m very happy to be going to the UW!

I’m fairly sure I want to go to Barnard. I need to get about $4,000/yr more in outside scholarships to not have to take out any loans. Working/doing paid internships during the summer should also probably help with that…

William and Mary for a Psychology BS.
