Google CSS1 2018

@jeffrandell If you don’t me asking, what are your stats?

Guess the May 7 day is out of the window… despite their email explicitly saying it was going to be the 7th, I’ve gotten no email. I figure they’ll at least let waitlisted applicants know their decisions, acceptance or rejection.

i also haven’t gotten any emails. I’m waiting to hear back from NYC. It’s getting so frustrating and making it really hard to focus on my AP’s. Anyone else just as frustrated as I am?

I’m also NYC and haven’t heard back, my friend also applied with me and hasn’t heard anything either. The person who replied to my email (this was an actual response, not the automated one) said they were going to release on a rolling basis & that they had an abnormally large number of applicants this year.

@CCThunderfin I have a 1550 SAT (800M, 750ERW), 790 M2, 750 Physics; I think my responses were really well thought out and creative- especially the sustainability app pitch.

@jeffrandell Ah nice, congrats. I had a 35 superscored ACT. Thought my essays were fine, don’t have much CS experience-- think that’s what they’re looking for? Haha.

@pizza_lover00 Still waiting to hear back from residential. I keep obsessively checking my e-mails and this thread, so yes AP studying is a struggle haha

@CCThunderfin I don’t think they were looking for CS experience as much as they were looking for those who were interested in it or planning to major it in. A lot of high schools don’t even offer it as a class yet. That’s why they encouraged those of all CS experiences to apply, but upon looking at the threads from last year, it is to my understanding that the camp actually tries to teach from the basics, and therefore it could actually be disadvantageous to already know so much programming languages. It’s not really my place to say that though, since I wouldn’t personally know.

@D1ngus - am not bitter, am super happy where I’m going next year, and I didn’t apply for any scholarships.
Have just been seeing several affluent non-URMs around me claim to be URM - which doesn’t seem fair to all the kids who are actually URM.
Totally agree that creativity / passion in essays and in ECs counts for college apps and I’m sure for CSSI, which is how it should be…

According to the slack, denial emails are starting to roll out

@GinaVal I said I didn’t actually have much CS experience.

Well, the denial emails for waitlistees are true. Got mine today at just before 8 am PST.

Congrats to all those accepted! Have fun. Cheers.

Are only rejection emails coming out now? I still haven’t received one yet, but one of my friends from my HS that applied received his rejection email today.

@Rojobot Did your HS friend apply to NYC?

@mgineer Yes

I got my rejection from NYC today.

** Did anyone get a CodeU invite? Don’t think they are doing it this year, perhaps? **

Rejected, “Unfortunately, after much deliberation, we are unable to move forward with your application at this time for CSSI. However, we think you show great potential and would like to tell you about other opportunities to stay connected with Google and build your computer science skills (see below). We’d love to stay in contact with you and to reach out to you regarding other programs in the future.”

Rejected from San Jose, California, got the email today.

@Djinoa I have similar stats, albeit didn’t take the CS AP, and I didn’t get in. Think for you, you’re too qualified. Enjoy whatever Ivy you’re heading to!

One of use should circle back next year and tell people who are thinking of applying about what happened this year.

@redseas What do you mean? I think the same thing happens every year, at least in terms of the types of people Google is trying to attract to CSSI.
