Hi, I just got an email saying that I've moved up to the next level of the application, which involves the hiring committee. (It's been about a week since my interview). How likely / unlikely is it to get an offer after this point? What does the hiring committee do exactly?

I’m not sure what they do, but I got the offer after being sent to hiring committee very quickly. I did, however, have a competing offer, so the turn around may not be as quick. Good luck and I hope to see you next summer!

Hi flutes,

Good luck on the offer you’re waiting for. I actually just got an interview time set up with them and was hoping you could answer some questions.

-What was the interview like? Was it on the phone or in person?
-When did you apply? I applied roughly a month ago and just recently got my application reviewed.
-What are your skills? I just want to know roughly if I even have a chance :0
-Could you keep us updated?

Thanks a lot.

Hi, thanks a lot.
- The interviews were two back to back phone interviews; one about your resume and projects and one with coding.
- I applied late October but I had missing documents which I didn’t turn in until December. Had my interview a week after I turned in the missing stuff and got this email the following Monday.
- I’m a freshman so I don’t have a lot of experience except for high school AP class but I did a summer program at Google this past summer which I think helped me get the interview.
- Yes I will! They’ll let me know mid January.

Any reply yet?

I interviewed on Monday (1/6/14) and just got the email that I am being advanced to the hiring committee yesterday (1/8/14).

I wouldn’t think that moving on to the hiring committee is a big deal, I thought that all candidates were presented to a committee after being interviewed but then the email from my recruiter stated something along the lines of “I am pleased to inform you that you are moving on to the next part of the application process.” This makes it seem like it is at least somewhat selective.

Any thoughts?

^ You move on to the hiring committee if they think your interview feedback from your interviewers was good enough. So it is a good thing! The next time they contact you should be whether or not you get the job. Good luck!

Hi MSimson, Congratulations on passing the interview!

I just applied yesterday and got an email say they will contact me within two weeks.

Could you give me some information about your interview?
-Are those question pretty hard?
-Did they ask any basic programming concepts or they just ask coding questions?
-Did they ask you anything about bit manipulation or frame buffer? (I’m not familiar with them so I’m pretty nervous about this topic)

Thanks a lot! Hope to see you in summer!

Hi zhulagirlz,
Congratulations on your offer! I just applied and they said they are going to contact me within two weeks.

Could you give me more informations about your interview?
like what kind of questions they asked you? Are those questions hard?

Thanks! Hope to see you in summer!

I didn’t think my first interview’s questions were too difficult. They were only coding questions, but they utilized basic programming conceptsand data structures. My first interview we got through 3 questions, 2 of which I found optimal solutions for. The second interview, we talked a little about a project I did at a hackathon. This project was listed on my resume and the interviewer just asked me to talk about the project. After that, he gave me a coding question that was rather lengthy. I believe I did have a solution in the end but it might have been a little buggy.

No questions involved bit manipulation or frame buffers… at least I don’t think so haha, I’m not entirely sure what those are.

For tips, I would say look at practice questions on career cup dot com. I also found an article called “140 Google interview questions” so something along those lines.

For more specific questions I had on my interview I’m going to ask my recruiter just to make sure I’m allowed to disclose that information. I even saved copies of the Google docs we used during the phone interview do I could show you the code I wrote if I’m allowed to. I’ll let you know when I get a response from my recruiter.

^ Pretty sure you’re not allowed to disclose the specific questions. You probably signed a confidentiality document before your interview, no?

As for interview questions, don’t sweat them too much. They’ll ask you questions based on the level they think you’re at based off your resume. If you didn’t put bit manipulation on there, they probably won’t ask you about them.

Hi MSimson and starchywinky, thank you so much for your replies and helps! I will practice, practice, and practice. Hope to see you in summer!

Has anyone heard back from their interview? I just had mine, and I don’t think that I did well. Will they contact me, or am I going to be left hanging until march-april.

karlfrazier0236
They will contact you when your result comes out.
I got my result within two weeks.

I didn’t get the internship.
There’re some rumors say that all the intern positions are full now.

Good luck!

Ah well thats discouraging. I wonder why they would bother interviewing me if the intern positions are full now

karlfrazier Don’t be discouraged!

Even if those positions do full now, if your interviews went well, they will want you for the next summer. But about next summer, the decision will not be made in the semester.

Best wishes!

So I applied on 1/30 and got the rejection letter today… is that because they’re already filled?

I got an e-mail saying that it was only for sophomores and freshman studying in the U.S and Canada and I am a freshman studying in a U.S University. I don’t know if I messed something up on my application or it was an error on their side. Should I e-mail them?

at least you guys got a response…I applied 1/31 that morning and haven’t received anything whatsoever
