Got 2230 on SAT with only 710 in Math; should I retake if I want to do CS?

I got a 2230 on my SAT (710 M, 740 CR, 780 W). If it matters, I got 34s on both of my ACTs; one netted me a 34 in Math and the other a 36, both of which would appear better than a 710. I took the Calculus AB AP with only having self-studied for a couple of months rather than being in the class. I'm nervous about that score, but I'll be taking the Math II SAT Subject Test, and I'm considering retaking the SAT. I've taken all honors math classes so far, and I've gotten all As in them except for one B (an 89.6% - grrr!).

Does the competitiveness of a math-related field like CS at Cornell make it necessary for me to get absolute top math scores? Do I need to retake the SAT? Should I just give up entirely?

An alternate course of action I'm considering is to apply as an Undecided, but this seems risky to me. Thoughts?

Bumpity bump bump.

CoE MechE. I had 2070 (720M 640CR 710W).

I think you are fine with the score you have now. Your time would probably be better if invested in writing them application essays :D

CompSci with a 720 M, so I agree with fallenmerc. Your score is totally fine and you don’t need to have an “absolute top math score” since they know that most people don’t stick to the major that they apply for.

It is Best to look at averages than single anecdotes. Emberjed your ACT is competitive enough for Cornell. The composite score is really what matters though, however the 36 In math won’t be ignored.

Thanks, everyone! I think I’ll probably be retaking the SAT anyway for other schools’ sake, but I guess doing it for Cornell alone wouldn’t be necessary.

Your scores are very good. I don’t think retaking the SAT will be very fruitful (You have a great ACT) - Just make sure you have a good score on the SAT Math II, and you’re all set!

Your scores won’t really give adcoms a good or bad impression. You’ll just have to rely on other things to set you apart.

I’m just hoping that my less-than-stellar class rank and, to a lesser extent, grades won’t set me apart in a bad way. I can’t really afford not to stand out standardized test-wise.
