Got a 1 on AP European History Exam :(

I took AP European History this past year as a sophomore and I got a 1 on the exam. Should I try restudying it by myself and not taking the class and retaking the exam for a better score. Is it worth my time to restudy and retake the course? If so, please please please give me some tips and prep books of how to get a 5… I am actually really embarrassed by this and I know I could of done better. Please help me out… I do not know what to do.

I would say you should only consider retaking the exam if you’re really into history and want to study it in college. And if you don’t want to study it in college, look into general ed requirements that you need to complete so you’ll know whether or not it’s really important to get credit for this class. If it’s not too important, is it really worth your time and money to retake the exam?
If you do want to retake it, I’d suggest self studying it. You shouldn’t retake the entire class. Buy several prep books like Barron’s and AP Achiever. I used then and they were really helpful. Look for YouTube videos online also. There was one AP euro teacher who posted really helpful videos. I can’t think of his name right now though…
I got a 4 on the exam and am happily surprised with it. What I did to study was: reading through the Barron’s book entirely, I did practice DBQs and FRQs and multiple choice questions. For the essays, no the basic and expanded core points! If you know how to earn points on the essays, it’ll drastically help your score.
That’s really all I can think of at the moment. Message me if you need any help! Good luck and remember that failing the AP exam isn’t the end of the world. :)

I mean if you want to reconquista it, by all means do so, given that you can pay that gold standard required to take the test. Otherwise, I guess don’t sweat it. As far as I know you don’t have to report all your AP scores to colleges, plus it’s a blemish. Whatever.

I mean I’m guessing you got a 1 mostly for the FRQ and DBQ sections. If not, then ignore this, but do some FRQ and DBQ practice that’s on the collegeboard page. Use their rubrics and sample essays to learn. If it’s the MC that you’re struggling with, get the Crash Course AP Euro book. It’s straightforward, and although I didn’t really use it, when I glanced at it, it was instant help.

By now you might have an Inquisition on how I did on the AP test? Well I took it two years ago and got a 5. No shock considering I made some cheezy AP Euro references, but don’t worry if you wanna retake it you can only go up. Plus it’s only college credit in most colleges if its 4+.

So consider: 1) Is it worth your time 2) Is it worth the effort 3) What will you gain from this

It’s actually quite weird, cause I honestly thought I did really well on DBQ and good enough for the FRQ (I know, you can’t just do “good enough” on FRQ, but I honestly felt like I got a 3 on the entire exam together…) So, I’m assuming I did really awful on the multiple choice, which is weird again, cause I thought I got at least half of the questions correct… should I try getting it rescored? @TotallyTrudy & @confusedteen15

You should be aware that you’ll have to pay to get it scored again. If it was me, I wouldn’t because I doubt the College Board has many errors in scoring that are that drastic.

Most colleges do not consider AP scores for purposes of admission (only course credit) and you have the option to self report them on the Common App. While retaking may seem like a popular option now, think of how much you will retain by next may and whether you will have other APs to concurrently study for.
