Hi there, I’m currently a community college student enrolled in 2 different CC’s. My first ever college class was Psych 101 and I took it way back when I was a junior in high school, and I ended up getting a C. This particular college won’t let me retake the class because it was technically a passing grade.
However, I’m planning on transferring into a nursing program within the next year, and psych 101 is necessary for literally every program I’m interested in. That being said, is it worth it to retake the class at another CC for the sake of showing these nursing schools that I’m able to get better than a C?
A C is a passing grade.
What are the rest of your grades like?
Sorry for the late response but the rest of my grades are either B’s or A’s. I have B’s in my non-major prerequisites (history, developmental psych, etc.) but my science classes/core classes are all A’s so far.
I agree with @happymomof1 that a grade of C is usually a passing grade for most course out there. So I’m pretty sure you’re safe on that. But I’d double check on the nursing programs you’re applying to in regards to what the passing grades are for Psych 101, just to make sure.
A C in a college course taken while in high school is actually a pretty good grade. So I wouldn’t worry about the grade itself, especially within the context of all the other coursework you have done since then. It is clear that you can handle college-level work.
What is worth verifying with the nursing programs on your list, is whether or not the content covered in that class meets the specific requirements for admission. Would those programs prefer that you take a class that covered different material at the 101 level, or perhaps a different psych class entirely such as child or adolescent or adult or geriatric?
