My first choice is Nursing and I really want to go to UCI. If I accept their admission can I change my major to Nursing?
From the UCI Nursing website::
What if I am not admitted into the Nursing Science major?
It is possible for students to be admitted to UCI, but not the Nursing Science major; if this happens, admission will default to the applicant’s second choice major. Students not admitted to the program may reapply to change their major after their 2nd year at UCI, or students may also choose to reapply to our program as Transfer/2nd Baccalaureate students.
Once you are accepted for chem you can’t switch into nursing right away because it is a restricted major, but you should be able to switch into any other major that is unrestricted without much difficulty. You may be able to switch to nursing for your 2nd year, but also keep in mind that UCI’s nursing program is difficult to get into and just because you are already at UCI, that doesn’t ensure that you will be accepted into the nursing school. You should also talk to your admissions counselor or someone in the nursing department and ask what you can do to switch into that major. Hope this helps.
