I got accepted to UCF about a month ago (my acceptance letter is dated October 13th), and I got accepted to UCF's Burnett Honors College today. The problem is I feel like I want to DO something now, instead of just waiting around for the next step in the acceptance process.

The details about what we need to do after we're accepted are pretty vague to me, but I know at some point I need to get immunization shots, ect. before starting college and I'm just wondering what other details I can take care of this early on.

I plan on living on campus in the Honors towers (pretty excited for the housing to finally open up), and I want to find out how much scholarship money I'll be offered since that's how I'm paying for housing. What other details should I be paying attention for? I know Orientations don't open up for a while, and the math placement test is way in the future.

I think the next step, would be to start planning it out. Not neccessarily on paper, or in action, but in your head. Are you in state, or out of state? Being out of state would mean you need to get a LOT of things done. Start thinking about what you’ll need down there, and when to get them. Beginning thinking about when you would like to attend orientation. Also, I would just book a doctors appointment now. If you’re due for a physical, anyway (As I am) you may as well get it done and over with. There’s a lot to plan out, but until housing opens, there’s not much to do. Once housing opens up, everything will start in a freenzy, trust me. I’m already stressing over all the things I’m going to need. Now that the excitment of being acceptence has sunk in, it’s time to get serious…
And I hate being serious, lol. Good luck!

I’m from in-state, right down the road from UCF actually Also I have no idea what days I have to pick from for Orientation but I know they have a special one for the Burnett Honors College so I’d end up going to that one. My mom’s dealing with booking the appointment for the doctors now, since I’ll need a series of shots over time. The wait for college is KILLING ME.

You’re telling ME! I’m out of state (Chicago land area) and the winter is so horrible, I’m honestly considering going to play in traffic.
With a blind fold on.
I’m not looking forward to my doctors appointment, either. Shots are enough, but then they just make you do those awfully odd things, like squat on the ground and walk. It makes me wonder if there’s a hidden camera, just catching me in the act of looking like an utter idiot. I’ll be going down for summer, so I understand what you mean. High school REALLY wasnt my thing, and I know the college life will offer so much more.

I can’t remember the last time I went to the doctors, although it had to have been in the last couple years for my high school shots. Maybe it was so traumatic I suppressed it I’m sure there were plenty of tears. But it’s really nice down here except in the summers so if that’s when you’re coming down it’ll be unpleasant with the heat and bipolar summer tstorms.

Well, a lot of people just except me to be ‘used’ to the weather, since I lived down there. However, I moved when I was five, so I really don’t recall much of it. I’m sure it will feel like the seventh cycle of hell to be, so hopefully I’ll spend my time in doors, at the gym, or at the pool. However, I’d be the nut who would take a walk around campus in the rain. I LOVE storms. There’s just something beautiful about heat lightning electrifying the air around it. Ah, I know a doctors office all to well. I’m in an out of there every year, for personal reasons. That, however, does not mean that I like them, lol. I’m just hoping my job up here has prepared me. Since my freshmen year, I’ve worked in a local pizza parlor. During the summer, the average temperature was 120. Our boss didn’t think air conditioning was neccessary, and the oven is too big, and too hot. Right now, though, my main focus is getting my twin brother accepted.

Congrats Demure, or rather my condolences as I feel the same way (I’m sending my honors app this weekend). But I’ve been making trips periodically to get a feel for the nightlife. Highly reccommend it and is awesome as well. As for the honors college what were your stats/what did you send? (i.e. letter of rec or creative pieces or something?)

Good luck to your brother, I know lots of people that applied to UCF (I literally live 3 minutes away, and my high school is about 2 minutes away) and I haven’t heard of anyone getting rejected yet. I think at one of the events at UCF I heard they were the 2nd largest university in the country based on number of enrolled students so your brother has a really good chance.

The humidity is the killer here, but I can say with certainty that it has nothing on 120 degrees in front of a monster pizza oven… that’s just insane! (This coming from a Florida native, 17 years and counting ) You’ll love the summer thunderstorms, I actually love being inside during a thunderstorm, but the water is too cold for my liking so I always try to stay under cover.

For the Honors application I included a drawing, a list of the 10 extra curriculars, three teacher recommendations, and the essay. I am a National Hispanic Scholar (through the PSAT) and we get special consideration so I also had to include a copy of my award. Other than that, I have taken a total of 12 AP classes including the ones I’ve taken this year making me an AP Scholar with Distinction and I got a 2200 on the SAT (CR: 740, M:700, W:760). Also if it helps, I sent in my application last Monday and got my acceptance letter today, I was shocked to get it back so early. Best of luck!

I love that feeling! The drops of water just sliding down on your skin, chasing away the excessive heat of the day. I also look forward to the sunshine, and hope to tan up a bit. I’m fairly pale, but tan very easily (because of my italian and greek side). I often feel out of place here, because for some reason, the girls feel a need to go to a tanning salon…in the dead of winter. I feel like I’m surrounding by a bunch of workers that escaped from the chocolate factory…except they’re slightly taller. I really hope you’re right:) He has a 23 ACT, as well as a 3.8 GPA, so we’re hoping he can follow me down there. Being a girl…well, I have no sense of direction, and the fact that I’m an awful driver does not help that aspect. I know, 120 degrees at work?! I often questioned whether or not it was legal! lol

I’m pale too, it’s horrible! D: I don’t even have an explanation for it since I’m half latina and live in the freaking sunshine state. Usually you see all the elderly people down here that look like they’ve been cooking their entire lives and are basically walking skin cancer, but we have oompa loompas down here too The parking down here is legendary… and not in a good way, so I hope that it isn’t too bad for you!

It will be okay, I’m not bringing a car the first year! lol. My driving skills will basically get me into an accident, one way or another, so I’d rather be safe then sorry. Besides, from what I’ve heard, there’s so many bus routs, that it shouldn’t be a problem:) I just have to convince my mom that she really can’t expect me to pay full car insurance. My mother thinks it’s very fair to make me pay $75 dollars a month…while I’m in florida…and my car is back home, in the garage, left untouched the entire year. I’m sorry, but that doesn’t work for me! lol

Wow, I’m pretty sure if you convert $75 to college money and include college inflation, it’s closer to $1000, you should tell your mom that (; $1000 sounds much more unreasonable. The buses here are amazing, they take you all across UCF and I see them all the time, even around the outskirts of the campus and in nearby areas. Are you planning on living in a dorm on campus the first year or are you going to get an affiliated apartment?

Dorm, hands down:) Being out of state, I really want to be in a very social enviroment. I’m a very social and people person myself, and am going to be looking for new people to meet…since I won’t know anyone (unless my brother is accepted). I’m looking to stay in Libra, Pod style, for fall. From what I’ve been told, there’s common rooms on every floor, and the dorms kind of build off of it. I feel like it will be a place with better interaction, say, if I’m walking to my dorm and just being a chat with another individual on the floor. I must admit, many of my friends are angry with me. No one ever gets out of illinois. They all either attend schools here in Illinois: NIU, SIU, ISU,UI, Loyola University, Depaul University, and university of illinois, in chicago. However, this is a good choice for me, personally and money wise, too. I have florid pre-paid (from when we lived there). I hate the college here, and they’re so expensive. At most of them, a simple, community style dorm, that you share with two people is average of $8,000 a year. UCF towers don’t even cost that much, and they’re apartments! I feel as though, if I don’t get out of Illinois for college, I never will.

Urban Dictionary definition: A native of Loompaland, usually tending towards attributes of small size, an orange commplexion, and green hair; the first recorded information of them comes to us from Roahld Dahl, the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Ompa Lumpa is what I like to call the tan girls, here in illinois. I call them that, because since they’re baking in tanning salons, instead of the natrual bronze the sun gives you, they’re orange…literally. I kid you not. So they always looked like Ompa Lumpa, that escaped from charlie and the chocolate factory.

A part of me wishes that I could afford out of state, but I wouldn’t be able to handle the winters anywhere else so Florida was my only option and out of the two colleges I really looked at UCF was my favorite. I loved the pod styled dorms too! I think they even have some dorms set aside for out of state specifically so you’re with other people who are looking for new people to meet if you’re interested you should totally look into that, but the in state kids are nice too I know that first year students are preferred for on campus dorms except the towers if you lived there your first year so you may have to live in one of the UCF affiliated apartments off-campus your other years but by then you’ll know lots of people and it’ll be easier.

Exactly! I’m settled on Libra, because I know that will give me the best experiance. That’s also the dorms that holds all the out of state students, so I got lucky that I liked it:) I will admit, I’m a bit worried about the roomate situation. I’m VERY easy to get along with, love to try new things, let anyone share my things, too. However, I might get paired with an individual who might hate me. I’ll just hope for the best!

I’m anxious about the roommate situation too, I am really studious, borderline nerd, so with my luck I’ll be paired with my complete opposite. Or a slob! Ew, I don’t want someone who doesn’t clean up anything, but at least UCF has the maid service. There’s so many what if’s, but then it’s like your roommate could become your best friend and always be a part of your life even after college and that would make it worth it. The housing page needs to update already so I can submit my deposit :)
