Got Admitted, help me decide

Hi everyone, this is my first post on CC, hopefully not my last. So, now I am currently in the senior year of my High School, will graduate in May 2011. I am from India and I applied to many colleges in the US and Canada. I want to do Computer Engineering, the major factor while short-listing colleges was to join the one that has a game development lab. I gave all my SAT's ( got a 2030) and TOEFL iBT (105/120) and finally applied to a dozen universities :P.

I got admitted to all, I did my research, still can't Decide on one. It would be great if someone could assist me in finally choosing one.

So here it goes :

Mcgill University - Canada

U of Waterloo - Canada USD 5,000 Schol

UIUC * - I didn't get comp engg here, got into an undeclared major division :S
4.Purdue
5.Penn State

U wash , seattle

FIT USD 12,000 Schol

RIT USD 10,000 Schol

DREXEL - USD 16,000 Schol

IIT USD 16,000 Schol

Umass Amherst USD 10,000 Schol

I didn't apply to the ivy's and those similar to the ivy's (CMU UCLA UCSD UCB etc.) because of the financial constraints. My parents can pay a max of USD 35 grand a year not more than that, and I seriously want to attend a good college. getting into a college with a gaming lab is not compulsory, but just a bonus.

It will be AMAZING if ANYONE COULD GUIDE ME, someone who's a veteran if you know what I mean ;)

Thanks a lot .

I got accepted into Drexel also and I know that it would be perfect for what your planning to do…but let it be known that Philadelphia is very dangerous and a little expensive. Although they do have good retention rate and are very good with getting you a job after graduation so thats always a plus.

You need to do the math so that you know just exactly what each place will cost you. Check each website for the Cost of Attendance and then compare the factors that each place includes. Ask potential employers in your home country whether they prefer graduates of one particular program.

It is easier to get a work visa in Canada than in the US.

Just so you know, the part of Philadelphia where Drexel is should NOT be considered dangerous. Of course all cities, and even small college towns, have certain dangers, but it is not necessary to be concerned about the area where Drexel is, as suggested by earlier poster. In fact, given your interests and the financial picture, it might be a very good choice. Drexel is working hard to upgrade its reputation, faciliaties and is active in the game development area. Also, Philadelphia is a great US city.

Mcgill University - Canada

UIUC * - I didn’t get comp engg here, got into an undeclared major division :S

U wash , seattle

Umass Amherst USD 10,000 Schol

UMASS is a great school at a good cost - If not I would opt for the lowest cost of the next in this order.

ive heard that u washington is a great school, and the pacific northwest is a beautiful area!!

It looks as if you could go to McGill and not incur any debt. Is that accurate? I don’t know anything about the relative merits of the gaming labs, if any, at these schools, but McGill is a great university in a wonderful, cosmopolitan city, and a bargain in comparison to most US schools.

As happymom said, you need to do the math, and consider visa issues if you wish to remain in North America during breaks and possibly work.

OP has probably already accepted one of these schools.
