Got an email from Rice Admission "Your Rice application fee has been waived!"

and contains "

Congratulations on your outstanding performance on the Advanced Placement exams. We learned of your scores through the College Board and we hope you will give serious consideration to applying to Rice. Our Advanced Placement policy awards credit to fours and fives on AP exams without limit to the number of credits you can apply toward your degree. This generous policy has enabled many of our students to easily incorporate study abroad, or double major, or simply increase their elective courses and graduate within four years.

As an additional reward for your hard work and success in AP courses, Rice will waive the $60 application fee normally required of all applicants to Rice. We are an exclusive user of the Common Application and we encourage you take advantage of this fully electronic application process.

...
"

What does that mean?

that means your application fee is waived!

lol....what else could it mean

Thanks for clarrifying. LOL

Purpose was to know if it means increased chances to get in as I'm not so excited about Texas and it was not on my radar.

It means your rice application fee has been waived....
edit: uh as for increased chances, i have no idea

no...it does not mean you have a good chance of getting in
it just means you fit the bare minimum (or above) for that college
my cousin got the same thing but was rejected

Thanks froozle, I was just looking for that information. As it is one more application and I don't want to go on increasing the reach/matches at this point.

Even if your chances are increased doesn't mean you have to apply.

It means that your chances of getting in are higher than those of the people who didn't get the e-mail. It means that Rice actually wants you to apply. It means that you have certain statistical credentials that makes Rice think that you might be a potential Rice student. All those things are good news for you! That good news only goes so far, but hey.

how many 5s did you get on APs to get that?

I got the same email, and I was surprised that they got my AP scores at all; I didn't send them to Rice knowingly.

Anyway, guideme, I got 6 5s this year.

If I get my application fee for Rice waived, I might apply just for kicks. If I don't, then screw em

guideme: I've 5 on 8 APs and 4 on 2 APs. Since I already have a long list of matches/Reaches I thought that this might make Rice as a match/safe instead of a match.

Rice is not a match/safe for anyone, for all but the craziest applicants. I'd say Rice is probably a match. That being said, if you have HYPS-esque stats (2300, 3.9 uw) with corresponding EC's-I see you getting into Rice, perhaps even with merit aid.

I got the same thing, but was wondering how they got my scores? I only took 2 APs this year, and got 1 5 and 1 4.

Whoever sent their AP scores to Rice got their fees waived i think.

I dont believe it has any thing to do with increased chances.

I got 4 5's and did not receive it lol
