^ I submitted my form of interest too...And I'm worried just the same. :

racinsamurai, do not worry too much about it. I am sure you can take some CCC courses that will transfer to UCI if all else fails. Good luck at UCI by the way. I MAY see you there, depending on what goes down in the months to come :eeps: Although I do not attend UCI, I usually go to the study center (I think that is what it is called) at nights to get in some late-night cramming. Maybe I will see you there sometime.

Wow....you guys took the opportunity.....sheesh.....making me think twice about this....but still.....I guess I came to my college with a purpose that still holds strong...

hey nikkei.... I too go to study at the studycenter there, im a student at saddleback what about you

Yea I was thinking about taking the CCC classes too. The only thing i'm worried about is paying all that money for UCI when I can't get the classes there though. It just seems kinda like a waste to me.

if you really cant get into the classes, you could just part time it there....something like less than 12 qtr units.....that would compromise your financial needs, going to a UC and satisfying your reqs...

i'm also going to occ and got that winter thing. i applied to it. my last semester GPA was a 3.0 and overall a-g uc was a 3.7 so I don't know if that'll hurt it. i want to go to UCLA, UCSB or UCB and I really don't like the UCI campus and thats why they probably have room. My parents want me to go to UCI. I'm telling them that something better is going to come along the way. I got rejected by all the UCs in march but my application was forwarded to UCR in May and I had a 75 percent scholarship and my parents were begging me to take it.

i think they might be giving this opportunity to their local students first since we both go to OCC.

just out of curiosity, if i complete the OCC honors program which is a tap for UCLA while I'm in UCI will that help me. I completed 3 units. If take two spanish courses, english course, and a sociology course over the next three semesters, I will fulfill the requirement.

Hmm...I was wondering if anyone here intending on going to UCI (winter 06 of course) is going to try to get on-campus housing?

do NOT go to uci. i am a freshman there right now. i had the mindset of "at least i'll be at a UC if i fail to transfer." i think the school is overrated and at times i wish i went to a JC.

i think you'd be a lot more depressed going to a jc....from what my CCC friends tell me....a you should give it some time to settle and try to have a good time...after all, you're paying several k per quarter...

I think its a bit harsh to tell everyone not to go there just because you don't like it. Its a personal opinion and I know people who went there and were pretty happy. It all comes down to what is right for the individual.

Hey, I submitted my interest too.
I was wondering if you guys knew what kind of odds we were looking at? They said that all we needed to do was to maintain UC eligibility (~3.0?) and we'll have a good shot at getting in.
Here's what I'm wondering...
1) Has anyone gotten notice yet? The Admissions Office said notices will be sent out around the end of the week.
2) Are we competing against each other for a limited amount of spots?
3) Let's say I do get in, how plausible is it even for me to go down there? I live in San Francisco, and UCI was my first choice, but that was when I had 6 months to plan the move. Now I have less than 2 weeks...

Thanks :)
Vince

just because you hate UCI doesnt mean anyone else will I have 2 family members going there and about 15 friends. If they had a strong poli sci department id go there...can you beat living in Orange County?? And BTW Making friends at UCI is a piece of cake!

Hey y'all

I just sent in my interest but I'm kinda worried that I'll get locked into going...I don't really know anything about the campus & I'm worried that I won't have the time to go check it out since winter '06 starts in January...also don't know if I can afford it...gotta live on campus, a little hard to commute from mission hills heh, heh.

Anyway, if anyone here knows about UCI or has gone through this winter transfer thing (or if you got any info on the English department!), post here or IM me: CamimileTea @ AIM.

muchas gracias, kiddos!

invinceable, I can't really help you since I'm in the same position wanting to know the same things...But hopefully we can use this thread to help update each other and everyone else planning to go to UCI.

1)Where did it say that notices will be sent out in the end of the week? I tried rereading the email and looked on their site, but couldnt find anything regarding that.
2)I have a feeling that if the response to this is overwhelming, then UCI will have to resort to our high school grades, test scores and current status at CC. But, granted that this is all under short notice, its possible that people havent/wont read the e-mail in time, and that some of those who have
Are already stuck with other intentions for their education.
3)You should really try to make all the transportation plans to get down there. I hear that going by Amtrak/train is substantially cheaper than most options
Then you have a choice between things like airflight, Greyhound, or even driving the 7-8 hours if you have to
It all really depends.

This is just a little list of my concerns:
---Financial aid. How are they going to determine this in such short notice? I encourage you guys to log on to your visual aid account (https://www.ofas.uci.edu/visualaid/login.aspx?return_url=https%3a%2f%2fwww.ofas.uci.edu%2fvisualaid%2fDefault.aspx) just to verify that at least your FAFSA has been received. If not, it would probably be best to make sure you do that just in case. I submitted my FAFSA way back in January, but didnt mail in any of the other documents because I didnt plan to go to UCI at the time. Im also looking to prepare for any student loans and the transfer of my scholarship funds.
---SAT/ACT/AP scores? If we already sent them to UCI during high school, do we need to send them again?
---Subject A/other assessment exams. If Im not mistaken, these are to be taken first in order to register for any classes. Now considering the little time that we have...

And hmm...Would we be considered as transfer students, or freshmen? ;p

Cammille..UCI has TONS of on campus housing...there are at least 7 apartment complexes within walking distance of the campus in addition to Uni housing. I dont personally know much about the English dept but I can tell you my cousion a Sophmore is an Eng major and is having a good time.

Aerolite:
1) Yeah, the email was pretty ambiguous, that's why I've called a few times. I'm anxious, what can I say? :) Okay so here are the results of my calls to the Admissions office:
3 days ago: You have a pretty good shot as long as you maintained UC eligbility in your senior year.
2 days ago: Oh, you're not competing against anyone. You're just waiting for the email with instructions on what to do next.
Yesterday: Oh, there's a lot of competition now, it's tough!

And yeah, I'm actually kinda worried about campus housing too. My buds down there said that there were long waiting lists for all the dorms, and his was definately filled to the max. But ijflexi seems to know about the apartments, so I'd trust that over me.

Doesn't UCI have the 6th ranked English department in the state? Or nation? I thought it said so somewhere in the English department site.
I was initially going to major in English as well, that's why I read all that stuff on their site.

And well, I'm gonna trust them when they said they'll arrange priority housing and financial aid for us because there's really no other option.

Well, end of the week, that's tomorrow or Saturday, right?
Gluck guys.

check out www.irvineconpany.com they own practically EVERYTHING in irvine. good site to look for apts. can be pricey though remeber its Orange County lol

Alot of competition now? Ergh...That doesn't sound too good for me. Thanks for taking the time in making those calls and for letting us know the results.

I hope that when they said they'd help us get priority for housing, that they really meant it. If I can't get on campus housing...It's a definite no go for me (financial aid purposes).

Good luck everyone, and keep this thread updated! :D I think that we should plan a little meet up if and when we get in, hehe.
