Hi everyone,
ı am an international applicant and I applied for Mech Eng graduate program in Rice University. I have received an email from a professor who I mentioned in my sop as the instructor I want to study with, says that he wants to have a conversation with me. I am too excited and confused. Will we be talking about personal topics or academic topics? Because I have been working for 3 years as an officer and I may not remember many of things related to engineering. So should I take a look at something to prepare myself for academic questions? Or will it be just a conversation for him to learn about me?

Post over in the grad school forum, this one is for undergrads

That is a sign of interest, so good for you. If you mention that prof, then you must have a reason to want to study with him and you can expect a conversation about his area of work and your interest in it. It might be good to get more familiar with his CV and read a paper or two if you have time. If you don’t feel conversant in engineering than yes you may like to prepare yourself. I’m sure there will be some personal talk too, maybe he wants to see if you will be a good fit in his lab. He might be evaluating your for a research position with him, which will get you some payment for your studies. He may be evaluating your English if that isn’t your language. Those are my thoughts and hopefully you will get more feedback in the grad forum.
