This liberal arts school that offers business (my intended major) sent me two letters saying that they believe their college is the best choice for me, and that I should play football there. I haven’t played football since I was a freshman (i’m an upcoming senior.) This school has a 3.6 average hs gpa, 30 act score, 50% acceptance rate, and the big kicker is that their tuition and fees are 41K… (although they are only a division iii school in athletics)
The thing is that I don’t want to play football I have the athleticism and build, but I would rather play basketball.
Do you think its a long shot to ask them to play basketball instead? lol
I have no offers from other colleges really, but I do have good grades (3.7+ unw) (4.4+ on a 4.8 scale) so I think I might actually go to this random school in a state i’ve never been to. I live in Las Vegas, NV so I was thinking of going to UNLV because tuition is only 6k-7k and i’m poor. but I might actually come out with less debt if I go to this program… but then again i dont want to hate it because i have to play a sport I don’t like -.-
What makes you think you’ll come out with less debt for the D3 school? There are no athletic scholarships in D3. Have you run the Net Price Calculator for this school?
the net price would be about 70k per year, it slipped my mind that d3 schools don’t give athletic scholarships. that sucks lol but i’m eligible for all kinds of grants and scholarships that they offer. yeah i’m just going to stick with UNLV lol
If you are low income then you would qualify for a lot of need based aid.Are you Pell eligible? I wouldn’t be too quick to dismiss this school. Although it is a bit strange they are contacting you out of the blue for a sport you aren’t currently playing. I would at least talk to them. If you could go for the price of UNLV you may be better off.
yeah i’m pell grant eligible. I get free lunch at school, and I think that makes me eligible lol. It is weird, but I did have a recruiting profile up, but it was for basketball (???) thanks for the insight everyone
Ok, well schools that promise to ‘meet full need’ will pay everything for you excepting some reasonable student loans and work/study. Other schools may or may not meet your full need depending on their resources and how much they want you. A D3 may be in a position to give you as much or more than UNLV. Sometimes you don’t know until you apply, though. Other times they may give you an idea ahead of time. You can always search for the Net Price Calculator for the school and run it and see how it looks. They can help with your room and board too.
Sure you can express interest and see if there is need for another sport. If you are sure don’t want to play the sport they are seeking recruits for, you can not waste everyone’s time after that. Be polite though, and don’t talk about ‘hating’ anything.
