Got deferred from Tufts ED1... Should I still bother trying to pursue them?

Still kind of annoyed… Should I still bother trying to aim for Tufts? I can almost say with certainty that my GPA was what caused my deferral since it’s very below average, 4.0 weighted. I’m doing great senior year though and managed to fetch a 4.4 weighted so far, which makes me hopeful.

The thing is, should I still bother with Tufts? If I couldn’t get accepted ED, then how am I going to get accepted RD, where I lost that advantage of making Tufts my top choice? Does anyone know the general acceptance rate of deferred applicants?

Sorry, i’m not quite sure if I understand your question. If you were deferred for early assurance then you are automatically considered for regular decision. Generally, I believe that the acceptance rate for deferred applicants is the same as the acceptance rate for regular decision, though I may be wrong. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions :slight_smile:

Oh yeah, I got deferred to regular decision. I’ll PM you.

I am interested in the acceptance rate for ED deferred applicants too. Does anyone know?

What does it even mean to pursue them? Sending an email with your latest accomplishments, and reiterating that you are still very interested? Seems like 10 minutes of your time, and you might as well try to maximize your choices in the spring.

@stchph “Still kind of annoyed”

It is disappointing, but it is not personal. They have way more applications than places in the class. They have to make judgments on people they have never met. They often get them wrong. Someone is going to be disappointed.

@stchph “The thing is, should I still bother with Tufts?”

You don’t need to do much other than send an update. However, you definitely do not want to lock on to Tufts. It is very important to continue with your college search process, as if you were rejected.

@stchph “If I couldn’t get accepted ED, then how am I going to get accepted RD, where I lost that advantage of making Tufts my top choice?”

I have been told that they usually do admit some of the deferred applicants, so it is possible. I probably depends on the regular applicant pool.

@stchph “Does anyone know the general acceptance rate of deferred applicants?”

This is the statistic that would be helpful to know. If someone knows, this would tell you how long the odds are.
