I registered for classes and got into all of them. however, i did not pay away and i got dropped from 2 out of 3 of my classes. i know, it’s totally my fault, i should have paid or set up a payment plan right away. i just thought i could hold my payment off since i was submitting a residency change (in hopes to bring the tuition down), but i got sidetracked and forgot to look at the payment deadlines, so again completely my fault.
in one of the classes, i got 7th in the waitlist (biology) and for the other one i went all the way to the 20th spot (organic chemistry). what should i do? i am most concerned about the 20th spot and i know this will completely ruin my schedule. do i contact admissions? the professor? really it’s my fault so i cant really defend myself but should i still go for it? im just freaking out so much right now and afraid i may take another year in my CC.
for additional information, i have 1 more month until class starts. do you think maybe i can still move up the waitlist assuming other people get dropped as well?
also, i actually work in the chemistry department/laboratory in our school, and i’m very good friends with my boss, who is also good friends with the professor of the class i have the 20th spot. if i email this professor, would it be a drop in my integrity / too desperate of me if i mentioned that i work in the chem department in hopes that i may higher my chances of getting a spot? i definitely am desperate.
sorry for the long essay and being frantic right now. thank you
Have you paid now?
You can definitely ask the profs to waive you in. Many do because they know others will drop too.
Are there classes you were planning on taking in later semesters that you could push to this semester? Your options are going to depend on the policies at your college, but your best bet is to visit the registrar and ask them. Hopefully most of the people on the wait list have already registered for other classes, and you won’t really be as far down as it appears.
1/3 of my classes were open and i have already paid for it. as for 2/3 of the classes i described above, i cannot pay unless i get off the waitlist. thank you for the suggestion. by any chance, do you happen to know how often students get dropped/will drop from class? again, it’s still 1 month until classes start so i’m really just relying on the possibility that students decide to drop. again, thanks
Are enrollment matters handled by the class professor or by the school registrar at your college ?
At my daughter’s school it isn’t up to the professors. We were told to go through the academic advisor and if that failed, to go to the department admin for her major if it was for a related class.
I am currently waitlisted into 2 classes for the upcoming semester and I am thinking of emailing the professors. In one class i am in the 7th spot in a class of 30, and another one that i am extremely concerned about is a chemistry lab class where i am in the 6th spot in a full class of 18 students.
there is still 1 month until the semester starts, and the only thing i am relying on is the possibility that some students will decide to drop out of class. is it too early to email my professors now? or should i email them a week or 2 before the start of classes? what else can you suggest me to do to higher my chances of getting in?
thank you
It depends on the school. D’s school holds many spots for the majors in the dept, so after summer orientations, spots are released. Some schools let professors override the number in the course. Lab classes are harder because there are only so many lab spaces.
It seems to me if you register and don’t pay, your spot will be released again. You need to go talk to the registrar and the prof/dept.
