I applied to TCNJ as a computer science major, but today I got an email saying that the CS acceptance rate would likely fall below 20%, that my chances of getting in were low since they only have a limited number of seats left, and they were giving a select number of students the opportunity to change the major on their application. Did anyone else get this email and should I be worried?
Stats:
1560 SAT 34 ACT
3.1uw 3.8w GPA at one of the top ranked schools in NJ, taking the hardest classes offered
Decent ECs and essay
You ask should you be worried. They are telling you you more than likely will not be accepted to that major and if you would still like to go to TCNJ you should pick another. You have to choose if you want to do CS or go to TCNJ.
We got the email also today for marketing. My son is not interested in any of the majors offered. So he has decided to take his chances. He applied to 4 schools, got in all the other three, TCNJ is #3 on the list so we are good but how do they expect him to decide on another major when none of the choices are even close.
You’re not the only one who got the email today! There was someone in the Regular Decision thread who did too. Just curious, what’s the deadline on your email? I got mine on February 1st and the deadline was February 27th. Maybe they’re doing this in batches.
What was your major? He was marketing and would have considered another business degree - do you remember if that was an option when you got your email. It seems to me that business may have been an option on the first few rounds and now he is getting the less popular options.
My son got the letter also - he was applying to the “Open Options School of Business department”. He changed his major. I figured it wasn’t a rejection letter so maybe he’ll get accepted into another program
Business wasn’t an option when I looked at the form earlier out of curiosity, but my friend got the same email when I did, changed to business that same day, and got in. (She didn’t end up committing to TCNJ though so maybe a spot will open up! :P)
we were expected to respond by 02/27, we decided not to change the major even my DD is not sure whether she wants to major in CS. I am not sure why they just can’t make a decision now.
