Got into 2 schools as of now

As of now, I have gotten accepted to Temple University and a Penn State University branch campus. I am not exactly sure what I want to major... in the past few months I have thought about finance, econ, EE, and CS... which both schools offer. I kinda want to go to Temple because I like the school, and I want to get away from home just because its boring here. I know that in the long run a PSU degree is better.. but is temple that much worse? What is Temple prestigious in? I don't think they have much of a science or business department but I may be wrong. What do you recommend that I do? Please help me out because I would like to make a decision soon..

Fox school of business (Temple's b-school) is a VERY highly regarded and prestigious school in the mid atlantic, tri county area. It wont have as much of a regard outside of the east coast though. Temple is very good at marketing, Actuarial science, Econ, entrepreneurship, Management, finance, Int'l business, Risk Insurance, etc. I know both of the Deans personally. They are family friends of mine. My father is an alum of Fox and has done rediculously well. In no way does Penn State have much on Temple at all unless you intend to live outside of the area. Others can say otherwise, but I dont agree. Anything else? Lemme know. I've taken marketing at Temple.

thanks for the info, but how about the engineering/science program? that probably concerns me a bit more

Dont know science, but i'm sure it's fine. The eng school at Temple is VERY underrated. People here are all 'Lehigh and Drexel' nothing else. Temple has a very respected and improving eng school. One of my dad's colleagues went there and has done extremely well and has nothing but good things to say about it.

thanks..anyone else?

Hi Roborock. Congrats on your acceptances! Which PSU satellite were you accepted?

In my opinion, Temple has always been an underrated school. I know several doctors who did their undergrad at Temple. One of their daughter's is at Temple now majoring in communications. I have never viewed Temple as an engineering school. I have always thought of it more as as a very well diversified university, meaning that it isn't just good at ONE thing, it is good at MANY things. They have an art school, a business school, a law school, a med school....

Where are you at in PA?

Do you know anything about their communications program? jPod, you seem like a big Temple fan. May I ask why you want to attend a different school? Also, does anyone know why only 52% graduate from Temple in 5 years? Their retention rate is fine.

Com is pretty good at Temple. Why dont I want to attend Temple? Well, i've lived here all 18 years of my life and I want to get out of the Phila. area. Temple is my safety and I'm fine going there. My dad is also an alum.

jPod, Thanks for explaining. Why is the grad rate so low at Temple? Any ideas?

BTW, to the OP, the 5 year grad rate at Penn State is 81%. That speaks volumes to me.

Why is it so low? It's Temple's problem. They attract a lot of students, both good and bad. My personal problem with Temple is that they believe in giving everyone an equal opportunity whether or not they did well in high school. Thus, they take kids who are clearly not college material. I know several people who got in who are undeserving of a college education. So these kids that get this opportunity tend to blow it. I've talked to the dean about it. He agrees that it's a problem and assured me they are working on upping their selectivity.

Congratulations. I don't think you should look at prestige when deciding where you want to study. It is what you make of yourself while you're in University that'll get you places, you could be going to Wharton school of business and act like a douchebag and get nowhere after graduation. I'd say go to Temple if you really like it there.

FYI, my dad went to Fox School of Business (Temple's B-School) because he couldnt afford to pay for Wharton. His parents were middle class and had some money, but he had to pay for college himself. Let's just say he's a BIT more successful then his Ivy-bound classmates :D

Yeaa......

???????????????

cool thanks alot guys for the info, i'll probably be going there

Good to hear bro. Anything you need? Let me know. FYI, the food at Temple is amazing. The dorm stuff is decent, but the off campus places---oh-my-god. There's a chinese place on campus that makes the best beef fried rice ive ever had.

I'm not sure about you, but I plan to become a dentist.

And Temple is one of my top choices for dental school.

Temple's dental school kicks ass.

Temple has one of the top dental schools in the country along with Penn. I cant remember if my ortho. went to Temple or Penn. My Dentist went to UMass. My brother's best friend's dad went to Penn.

My cousin's grandma's son's stepfather's friend's next door neighbor also went to Penn.

:D

I meant for Dental school, but yeah.....
