I just received the admission letter from penn state university. I applied for smeal college of business in University park Campus. However, the letter stated that I got into Smeal but I need to study in Abington. I lookup online and got to know that smeal is located in university park. How can I study in smeal when I end up at abington, which is 3 hour driving.
@nick5526 They are probably asking you to do the 2 + 2 program. You can complete your first two years at Abington and then transfer to UP where you will complete your Smeal degree. No one is actually in Smeal until their junior year anyway. Not even the students who begin at UP.
As @japsmom said, you aren’t in Smeal until Junior year anyway. Before then, you are “Pre-Major”. So you take the required entry to major requirements. Almost any major can be started at a commonwealth campus and completed at UP campus. In fact, 60% of all students who graduate from UP, started at a commonwealth campus. Your degree with still say Penn State. No mention of Abington. It’s the same degree as if you started at UP campus. You just have to meet the entry to major requirements, which can be significant in Smeal. @japsmom has a child in Smeal so they would be a good person to listen to as to what is required within Smeal!
Just to clarify the point that has been covered above – you will take classes for two years at Abington. These are the same classes that underclassmen at University Park will be taking. These classes can be found at http://ugstudents.smeal.psu.edu/academics-advising/degree-requirements/majors/majors Pick the link for your major with program year 2018 since that’s the latest. Your program year will probably actually be 2020 but they don’t have 2020 plans up yet. After two years, you will start attending classes at University Park.

Being able to enter Smeal at UP will depend on your grades - you need B/B+ in every class except for finance which requires mostly A’s. If you do that, you’re guaranteed to attend Smeal at UP. If you don’t, you have to choose another major such as Economics or Organizational leadership with the Business certificate (sort of minor), but you’re guaranteed to be able to go to UP.
