got into stanford w/ low SAT scores?

Hey guys,
so has anyone here been accepted into stanford even with mediocre SAT scores? I've really been looking up to get into stanford, and had a pretty good GPA (4.67 this year) and have been doing volunteering and joining groups, etc.. yet when i got my sat scores - 1860, i felt my hopes are pretty much crushed.. and no i cant retake, i need to take SAT II's in fall...and then applying....

Soo, any advice to get accepted to stanford even with my weakness? i hope someone else got through so I can see I atleast have a chance.. ok thanks!!

I think if you are an URM you could possibly get in.

whats URM?

under represented minority. like black/native american/hispanic.

you can try the ACT b/c unless you have some awesome EC's your chance is shaky
im pretty sure act dates dont coincide with subject test dates

You can retake your SAT Reasoning in October and take your SAT 2s in November or something. The last possible date is the December testing date if you're applying regular so you still have time.

1860, no matter who you are, is going to be a deal ender. There are too many applicants (even URMs). If that score is not indicative of your abilities, try the ACT. It is a very different test, and you might do a lot better. Either way, don't send that score in. It'll be screened in the first step of the admit process.

sorry to steal the thread, but..

is 2130 an OK score for a white international kid? Or is it also the "deal-breaker"? :(

What are your individual scores for the sections? Perhaps, I can recommend some good study aids for you to peruse over the summer :)

hmm well i dont think im URM.. south asian......thats a pretty large minority?
I dont know, I guess I could try ACTs but I'm gonna hate going through that process again..plus I have no practice in ACT's sections..

My EC's aren't excellent but I'm building them...
I have about 300 hours of hospital volunteering
150 hours more of community projects, etc..
leader/founder of art club at my school
taking/taken community college courses - psych, philo.,socio..
joined clubs like french club, enviormental club, CSF
CSF V.P. for community service..

I probably have a high class rank I think top 2%,
Have a teacher who's had me in his class for all 4 years so he'll write a good rec.and...I'll try my best to make an excellent personal statement.. lol.

Do I atleast have a chance in Berkeley?

Math:630, CR:630, Writing:600..

haha.. my writing score went down 50 pts..grrr..=</p>

You seem to have a lot of the other stuff, which is good. But an 1860 is going to have to be improved. Stanford is fairly nice with SAT scores (there are a lot more 2100+ admits than other top schools). But that is very much toward the low-end of the pile. Try the ACT, or practice the SATs a lot. Either way, get better test scores.

If the pain of going through the process again isn't worth a better chance at getting into Stanford, then probably applying isn't really worth it. Which is totally fine (that wasn't meant to sound harsh, just honest). There are dozens of great schools in California. Berkeley places even more emphasis on numbers than Stanford, so it would depend on your overall GPA, but I don't know.

i just happen to bum into this thread from search results... hope i am not too late... yes... u can get into Stanford with low SAT scores... I have low SAT scores but other factors helped me a lot (I guess) and I got in through SCEA.
