Got into your #1 Dream School but Disappointed?

Some students are lamenting that they did not get into their #1 dream school. Does anyone have any experiences with students who did get into their #1 choice only to realize it was not what they expected or otherwise came to regret attending?

I know someone who attended UCLA, graduated, hate the job she is doing now, and is switching over to being a makeup artist/business woman because it’s what she likes.

Advice them that things happen for a reason, and if they seriously hate the 2nd choice school, tell them to attend 2 years CC and then try again. Overall, tell them to stay true to their heart. Cheesy, but this goes a long way.

I started this thread in the hope of letting students know that not getting into their #1 choice is not the end of the world but maybe a blessing in disguise.

Wow, now I sound cheesey!

S got lots of attention and mail from CalTech. He applied EA and got waitlisted. Then he got rejected.

Bad few days followed. Then there was mail from Dartmouth and his heart has beat green ever since. I don’t think you could get him out of Hanover with dynamite.

Southern California? Bah humbug. Who needs smog, traffic and limp palm trees when you can have a New England fall? Plus there are . . .GIRLS. No worries. Life is good.
